Follow the Butterflies becomes available in Hogsmeade after completing the main quest Jackdaw's Rest.

| 1 |  Fast travel to Hogsmeade, where Clementine Willardsey is found inside the Three Broomsticks. |
| 2 |  Fast travel to the Forbidden Forest Floo Flame. The group of butterflies is found just a bit north of the Floo Flame, by the sign posts. |
| 3 |  Follow the butterflies as they fly over the river (but don't go in the river yourself) then to a chest in the northeast area of the purple circle denoted on your minimap. |
| 4 |  Fast travel back to Hogsmeade and talk to Clementine Willardsey to complete the quest. |
The March 8 update addresses the bug in the patch notes and has fixed following the other butterflies to not interfere with the quest progression.

Once you talk to Clementine Willardsey and start the quest, follow the butterflies in the Forbidden Forest and finish the quest as soon as possible.
Do not follow the other butterflies as this causes the quest-specified butterflies to disappear and change your quest objective to "Return to Miss Willardsey". This also prevents you from opening the treasure chest that the quest-specified butterflies will lead you to.
How to Fix Follow the Butterflies Conjuration Chest Bug: 139/140 Collectibles Bug
The butterflies will fly a bit north over the river. Don't jump into the river yourself, as that will cause you to walk extremely slowly. Instead, just keep an eye on them from higher ground, as they eventually fly back over the land anyway.
