Part of Sebastian Sallow's Questline

In the Shadow of the Study is a side quest unlocked as part of Sebastian Sallow's Relationship questline. In order to unlock it you'll first need to have completed all of the previous quests as listed above.

Additionally, although not part of the Sebastian questline, you'll also need to complete The High Keep then Wait/Skip Time before In the Shadow of the Study unlocks.

Objectives
1	Meet Sebastian outside the Slytherin common room. If Sebastian is not standing outside the Slytherin common room, there'll be a glowing circle that you can Wait in to make him spawn there.
2	Go with Sebastian to meet Ominis. Follow Sebastian until he leads you to Ominis.
3	Speak with Ominis.
4	Open Slytherin's door. There are 2 braziers down the hallway north of Ominis and 1 down the hallway to the east. You need to light them quickly so use Confringo to light them from where Ominis and Sebastian are standing.
5	Explore beyond the doorway. Head down the flight of stairs and retrieve Noctua Gaunt's Note 01 of 05 item from the east wall at the end of the hall.
6	Figure out how to progress. Use Reparo on the rubble on the ground.
7	Speak with Ominis about the hissing.
8	Wait for Ominis to open the door.
9	Explore beyond the Serpent Door.
10	Find a way through. Crouch through the broken gate to the south, then light the flame with Incendio. Use the Slytherin Lock beside it and match the top dial to the one that looks like an Ἆ and the bottom dial to the one that looks like a small letter "a."
10a	Head back to Ominis, who is standing beside another locked gate and Slytherin Lock. Set the top dial to the circle symbol and the bottom dial to the snake symbol.
10b	Head through that opened gate to reach another Slytherin Lock at the end of the hallway. Set the top dial to the sideways ♉︎ symbol and the bottom dial to the symbol that looks like an "A." This will open the gate beside Sebastian.
11	Talk to Sebastian. When you're locked in the room with Crucio on the floor, talk to Sebastian.
12	Wait for Sebastian to talk to Ominis./Talk to Ominis about Crucio.
13	Talk to Sebastian. Select any of the dialogue options to open the door. If you select a dialogue option that says you want to learn the Cruciatus Curse, then you'll have to perform the learning spell mechanic. ▶︎ Who Should Cast Crucio? Crucio Choice Guide
14	Explore beyond the doorway.
15	Search Slytherin's Scriptorium. Pick up Slytherin's Spellbook on the altar in front of the giant statue.
16	Give the book to Sebastian.
17	Leave the Scriptorium. Follow the waypoint to the statue behind Sebastian, where you can travel back to the Slytherin dungeon.
18	Listen to what Ominis has to say. After Ominis and Sebastian speak, the quest will be complete!

How to Solve the Slytherin Locks in the Shadow of the Study

First Slytherin Lock Behind Gate You Crouch Under

Crouch through the broken gate to reach the Slytherin Lock. Set the top dial to the one that looks like an Ἆ and the bottom dial to the one that looks like a small letter a.

Second Slytherin Lock Beside Ominis

Ominis is standing beside a Slytherin Lock as well. Set the top dial to the circle symbol and the bottom dial to the snake symbol.

Third Slytherin Lock After Dropping Down

After heading through the gate opened by the second Slytherin Lock, drop down to the third Slytherin Lock. Set the top dial to the sideways ♉︎ symbol and the bottom dial to the symbol that looks like a normal A.

Select the Learn Cruciatus Curse Dialogue Option

When talking to Sebastian in the room with Crucio on the floor, you'll be given 3 options: don't learn Crucio and let Sebastian cast it on you, learn Crucio but Sebastian still casts it on you, and learn Crucio and cast it on Sebastian.

If you want to learn the Unforgivable Curse spell Crucio, make sure to select either I want to learn the Cruciatus Curse. But you must cast it on me. or Teach me the Cruciatus Curse and I'll cast it on you.
