It Is Currently Not Confirmed as Canon
Hogwarts Legacy is currently not confirmed to be canon and it is possible that the plot will take place in an alternate timeline of the Harry Potter Universe as the story is not written by J.K. Rowling.
While all Portkey games are not direct adaptations of any of the books or films, the elements of Hogwarts Legacy is still intact with the magical universe that J.K. Rowling has created.
Unlikely to Be Canon
Due to the possibility of multiple endings and the unique Witches and Wizards players can create per playthrough, it's unlikely that Hogwarts Legacy will be considered canon when it comes to the books and movies.
There won't be any familiar faces or any sort of reference to the characters from the books around Hogwarts besides the resident ghosts, as the events of the game will take place in the 1800s while the Harry Potter books took place in 1990s during the second uprising of Voldemort and the Second Wizarding War.
Hogwarts Legacy Plot Summary
Set in The 1800s Before the Great Goblin Rebellion
Hogwarts Legacy will feature an original story set in the 1800s during a possible insurgence of a Goblin Rebellion. The game's story is told in the eyes of a young wizard or witch who enters Hogwarts during their Fifth Year as they embark on a dangerous journey to uncover the sinister truth of the wizarding world.
Various Storylines Depending on the Player
Players will be experiencing life as a student at Hogwarts, learning spells, brewing potions, harvesting magical plants, and taming wild beasts. The choices made during their encounters while playing the game's quests and main storyline will reflect the outcome of the wizard or witch they choose to become to be.
