What are Tools?

Tools are Consumable Items that Aid in Combat or Exploration

Hogwarts Legacy - Tools in Combat
Tools are consumable items that provide different effects when used. There are two types of tools: potions, and magical plants. There are six potions and three magical plants, giving a total of nine tools in the game.

You can only have a maximum of 10 per tool in your inventory.

Drink Potions to Gain Buffs

Hogwarts Legacy - Drinking Potion
Potions are items that can be drunk by the player to gain buffs that last for a while. Most of them aid in combat with effects such as turning the player invisible or increasing their damage.

Felix Felicis is the exception, as it has no effect in combat and instead helps the player with exploration.

Summon Magical Plants for Combat

Hogwarts Legacy - Using Mandrake
Magical Plants are plants that help the player during combat.

Mandrake is a quick, one-time use effect, while the other two plants, Chinese Chomping Cabbage and Venomous Tentacula, stay on the field for a while to continuously do damage.

How to Use Tools

Use Tools Through the Tool Wheel

Use Tools Through The Tool Wheel

Use the Current Selected Tool by Tapping the Tool Button

Hogwarts Legacy - Current Tool

At the bottom left of the screen beside the minimap, you will see the current selected tool. You will see how much you have of that tool, the current amount of plants you have on the field (for certain magical plants), and the Tool Button for the platform you're playing on.

To use a tool, tap the Tool Button. The Tool Button is Tab for the PC and L1 for the PS5. Make sure that you have at least one of the current selected tool.

Assign the Selected Tool with the Tool Wheel by Holding the Tool Button

Hogwarts Legacy - Tool Wheel
To change the current selected tool, hold the Tool Button to make the Tool Wheel appear. While holding, select the tool you want by pointing the mouse (PC) or stick (PS5) to the desired tool, then releasing the Tool Button.

Use Wiggenweld Potion by Pressing the Designated Key

Hogwarts Legacy - Wiggenweld Potion
Unlike the other tools, the Wiggenweld Potion, which is the green potion that heals HP, is not accessible with the Tool Button and Tool Wheel. Instead, it has a specific button for it; G for PC and the Down Button for PS5. You may check how many Wiggenweld Potions you have at the bottom right of the screen, beside the HP bar.

How to Get Potions

Brew Potions with the Potions Station

Hogwarts Legacy - Brewing Potions
To brew your own potion, you'll need to buy a Potions Station and conjure it in the Room of Requirement. You will also need the required ingredients for your potions; gather them from throughout the world, purchase them from vendors, or grow them from seeds in Potting Tables.

Purchase Potion Recipes from Tomes and Scrolls

Hogwarts Legacy - J. Pippin
To get potion recipes, you'll have to buy them from the J. Pippin's Potions shop in Hogsmeade.

Purchase Potions from Vendors

You may buy all types of potions and ingredients from J. Pippin's Potions, as well as various vendors around the world. However, you can only do this until they run out of stock (you'll have to wait for the season to change for them to restock), so it might be best to brew your own potions.

How to Get Magical Plants

Grow Plants with the Potting Table

Hogwarts Legacy - Potting Table
To grow a plant, you will need to put its seed in a Potting Table. Certain plants will require bigger Potting Tables; buy them from the Tomes and Scrolls shop.
Choose a pot that can hold your plant (some will need bigger potting stations) and wait for it to grow before you can harvest it.

Purchase Seeds from Dogweed & Deathcap

Hogwarts Legacy - Dogweed & Deathcap.png
To unlock the seeds for magical plants, you'll have to buy them from the Dogweed & Deathcap shop in Hogsmeade. You'll only have to purchase a seed once to be able to plant it as much as you want.

Purchase Magical Plants from Vendors

You may buy all magical plants from Dogweed & Deathcap, as well as various vendors around the world. However, you can only do this until they run out of stock (you'll have to wait for the season to change for them to restock), so it might be best to grow your own plants.
