There are four difficulty options to choose from the Settings menu. These include: Story, Easy, Normal, and Hard.
For first-time players, choosing Story Difficulty lets you progress the game without worrying over the combat and puzzle difficulty. This mode slows down the combat and you take less damage from enemies. In addition, puzzles are not time sensitive and you cannot fail minigames that require precise movement.
Hogwarts Legacy offers several accessibilty options that you can tweak to suit your gameplay needs. These include text-to-speech options, colorblind modes, subtitles, and language options.
You'll be able to choose between Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff houses at the beginning of the game. This will be your permanent home for the rest of your Hogwarts journey. Each house has its own common room and a companion that you can befriend!
While you wait for the game to release, take our Hogwarts House Quiz to find out where you belong!
First and foremost, you'll want to get a good handle on your wand and make sure to get the basics of spellcasting down pat if you're going to take on Trolls, Goblins, and the rest of the baddies the game throws at you. Visit Lucan Brattleby, leader of the Crossed Wands Dueling Club, if you want to practice casting spells on a dummy.
Casting spells is the bread and butter of any formidable witch or wizard, but in Hogwarts Legacy, this comes at a cost. Once you cast a spell, it will enter a cooldown phase in which you cannot use it again for a short period of time. You can tell a spell is on cooldown by looking in the bottom right corner of the screen - if the spell's icon is filling up, it's still on cooldown and out of commission momentarily.
Learn how long each spell takes to finish cooling down so you can pace yourself in combat. The length of the cooldown varies from spell to spell - the more powerful the spell, the longer the cooldown. Make sure you aren't relying solely on one spell so you don't get stuck in cooldown! You might even try brewing some Focus Potions in advance to shorten the cooldown period of your best spells.

You won't always have the luxury of taking enemies on one at a time. It may not seem fair, but you should come prepared in case you have to take on groups of enemies. You can manage these fights better by targeting enemies and picking them off one at a time. The top of the screen will indicate the name and health bar of the enemy you're currently targeting.
Look out for a halo around your character's head - this means an attack is headed your way! You can deflect spells with a button press, or hold the button to send a Stupefy counterattack!
Note that not all attacks can be deflected. Watch out for the red halo as this indicates an unblockable attack! Dodge to avoid these attacks whenever they appear.
You can find some students talking to each other in areas around Hogwarts Castle. Listen to their conversations as you can learn useful information or lore regarding the story.
As you roam around Hogwarts Castle, you'll find that Revelio will quickly become your best friend, revealing various items and interactable objects as you explore!
For example, you can uncover and obtain Field Guide Pages when you cast Revelio at certain objects.
In addition, once you reveal these interactable objects, you can test various spells to try and unlock their secrets!
When setting an active Quest, you may notice a yellow shiny trail that leads you to its destination. This allows you to reach the quest location without getting lost inside Hogwarts.
You can also check the trail in the form of breadcrumbs on your minimap.
Floo Flames allow you to fast travel at certain key areas in the map, saving you travel time. These appear in your map and requires you to discover them before you can use them.

The Gear you find and equip in Hogwarts Legacy will offer a basic stat increase to your offense or defense, but to truly take advantage of the benefits and increase their combat power, you'll need to upgrade Gear using the Loom in the Room of Requirement. You can upgrade a secondary stat or add Traits to your Gear if you have the correct upgrade materials.
List of Traits and How to Upgrade Gear
Each piece of Gear requires different magical materials to upgrade, and you can get these materials by feeding and petting Beasts that you've rescued from Beast Dens.
Vivarium Guide and List of Beasts
Collect Trait recipes from Bandit Camps and weave them into Gear with the required upgrade materials collected from tending to your Beasts. These Traits give your Gear specific attributes that will aid you in combat, such as decreasing the damage you take from certain enemy types.
Don't forget to claim your rewards on the Challenges tab! Go to the Challenges tab in the pause menu to obtain any unclaimed rewards.
List of Challenges and Rewards
While flying around Hogwarts and the surrounding area, use Revelio to reveal different map markers on the overworld!
It's a great way to explore without needing to constantly check the map.
Revelio Effects and How to Get
You have the option to roam around outside of Hogwarts Castle early in the game. However, the enemies in the world map have high level as soon as you roam far from the castle.
To check the enemy level of each region, go to the Map tab and zoom out until you can see the entire map.
Make sure to sell extra gear in Hogsmeade to manage your inventory. In addition, this is also another way to earn money to upgrade your gear and buy resources.
While it may seem extremely expensive, the Hopping Pot is a great item to have for players who love using Potions in combat! These can be conjured in the Room of Requirement and will provide a random potion every 12 minutes!
The Conjuration can be bought for 3,000 gold at Tomes and Scrolls in Hogsmeade.
When trying to reach high places, you can combine the use of Arresto Momentum and Wingardium Leviosa to move objects precisely and climb higher! A great way to get out of a pinch or explore.
You can also simply use Levioso for easier climbs!

If you're looking to make the most out of the Room of Requirement early in the game, use Evanesco to remove all unnecessary furniture in the room for up to 100 free moonstone!
These can all be easily conjured again if you'd like to decorate, but it's a huge amount of free moonstone early in the game!
The Room of Requirement Quest Walkthrough
The upgraded dash allows you to zip through a short space in a short amount of time! This can actually be used to bypass short crawl spaces and zip inside to save time!
