To unlock Tangled Web, you need to complete the main quest Charles Rookwood's Trial. Afterward, the game will transition to the winter setting and the quest will be available in Hogsmeade.

| 1 | Talk to Crispin Dunne. Crispin Dunne is standing in front of the fireplace inside the Three Broomsticks. |
| 2 |  Check on Mary Portman in Aranshire. Fast travel to the Aranshire Floo Flame. |
| 3 | Protect the hamlet from the spiders. You will be attacked by spiders almost immediately. Defeat them. |
| 4 |  Find Mary. Use Alohomora to enter the locked house to the north. Search Mary (the body wrapped in spider webs in the living room of the house). You'll obtain the Basement Key. |
| 5 |  Find the source of the infestation. Head to the back of the house and enter Mary Portman's Cellar. |
| 6 |  Search for the nest. Head to the southeast corner of the cellar then climb down the ladder. |
| 7 |  Destroy the Egg Sacs (12). Use Revelio to highlight the sacs so that you can easily spot them even from rooms away. |
| 8 | Find the source of the eggs. Head back to the main room and you'll be ambushed by the Thornback Matriarch. Defeat it, then head east where it appeared from. |
| 9 |  Defeat the Insatiable Spider. |
| 10 | Return to Crispin Dunne in Hogsmeade. Fast travel back to Hogsmeade, where Crispin Dunne is still in the same spot at the Three Broomsticks. Talk to Mr. Dunne to end the quest. |
You'll be fighting a lot of spiders at once in multiple instances during this quest. You can use the Thunderbrew potion during these fights to create a storm around you that stuns and damages the spiders.
