Most of the Assignment quests in Hogwarts Legacy are considered as main quests as they are required to progress the story. Assignments are where you will learn the majority of the Spells in the game.

Previous games set in the Wizarding World could be completed in 12 hours or less but seeing as how much bigger the scale of Hogwarts Legacy is, this number could easily be bumped up to 40 hours just to complete the main story.
