Puzzle Guide: How to Solve All Puzzles

Unlock secret areas, complete challenges, and earn other rewards by solving puzzles in Hogwarts Legacy. Learn more about each puzzle type found in the game and how to solve them with this guide!

Door Puzzles

While exploring Hogwarts Castle, you may come across Arithmancy door puzzles with symbols along the door. Interacting with the door will reveal a math problem, with the symbols representing the numbers 0-9.

To open these, solve the math equation on the door using the nearby wall dices. Unlock the door, and you will find Collection chests inside.

Alohomora Lock Puzzles

You can find Alohomora locks all around Hogwarts and the Highlands. Casting Alohomora on these locks will start a lockpicking minigame.

Rotate both dials to find the correct position. Gears will start to spin if you manage to hold the dials on the right spot until the lock is picked.

Alohomora locks will range from levels 1-3. Find Demiguises to level up your Alohomora spell to open higher-level locks.

Herodiana and Depulso Puzzle Rooms

Two Depulso puzzle rooms containing Collection chests can be found inside Hogwarts. These rooms will appear after starting The Hall of Herodiana side quest, and contain platforming puzzles that you need to solve to reach treasure chests.

Upon encountering one, cast Depulso on the wall to reveal a hidden room. Once inside, use Accio and Depulso to move around platforms and create a path to reach the loot.

Landing Platform Puzzles

Landing Platforms are found on elevated area across the map, which are easily spotted if you are high above the sky while riding your mount.

To solve these, simply land on one of them until it starts spinning and it activates. Activating Landing Platforms is one of the challenges to complete on your Field Guide.

Merlin Trial Puzzles

Merlin Trials are puzzles that are found all across the map that are activated with mallowsweet. The puzzles on these Trials will vary and involves the use of various spells.

To take on Merlin Trials, you first need to complete the Trials of Merlin main quest. Additionally, completing a certain number of Merlin Trial puzzles reward you with additional inventory spaces.

List of Merlin Trial Puzzles
Burning Pyres: Use Incendio or Confringo to light burning pyres around the area.
Giant Ball: Use either Accio, Depulso, or Wingardium Leviosa to move giant stone balls to a crater nearby.
Balls on Pillars: Use Basic Cast attacks to destroy small stone balls.
Balls in Slots: Look for a set of balls and use Accio or Wingardium Leviosa. Bring the balls on top of a platform with four holes.
Cracked Slabs: Locate all slabs and destroy it with Confringo.
Butterflies: Approach the butterflies and use Lumos. Bring the butterflies to a pillar to light it up.
Standing Stones: Jump on top of the stones without falling down to the ground.
Cubes with Symbols: Match the symbols on the upper cube with the symbols on the immovable cube. Use Flipendo to move the upper cube.
Broken Statues: Use Reparo to restore the statues.

How to Complete All Merlin Trials

Treasure Vault Puzzles

Treasure Vaults are hidden rooms found in the overworld containing chests and valuable items. Once spotted on the map, you can cast Revelio to mark the door to the vault itself as well as the mechanisms you need to interact with to unlock it.

Spell Cubes: Some Treasure Vault puzzles have platforms in front of the vault. To solve the puzzle you need to locate a spell cube found near the area and bring it to the platform. You can use Accio to carry the spell cube back to the platform. Once placed on top, you then need to use the spell indicated on the cube to activate the platform. Aim at the cube and use either Incendio, Levioso, or Glacius, and you will get access to the Treasure Vault!
Arrow Blocks Puzzle: To solve arrow block puzzles, simply follow the pattern from the complete stone block stack and insert the lone arrow blocks on top of the incomplete stone block stack with Wingardium Leviosa. ▶︎ How to Solve Arrow Block Puzzle
Chess Puzzle: If you encounter a chess board inside the Treasure Vault, you need to use the Transformation spell on an object inside a room and create a checkmate on the board with that piece. Use Revelio to locate the object you need to change then cast the Transformation spell at it to change it. Then, use Wingardium Leviosa and place the chess piece on a space that will create a checkmate. ▶︎ How to Solve Chess Puzzles
Unlit Cauldons: If you come across a floating cauldrons inside a Treasure Vault, simply light the unlit cauldrons on fire with Incendio.
Bone Totems: Search for a bone pile in the area and use Accio to grab it. Move the bones near the bone totem until it combines. Do this for all the bone piles until you solve the puzzle. ▶︎ How to Solve Bone Pile Puzzles

Hogwarts Secrets

There are three Hogwarts secrets locked inside secret rooms in Hogwarts Castle.

To reach these secrets, you need to solve a few puzzles first.

Clock Tower Puzzle: Use Arresto Momentum to freeze the pendulum of in front of symbols on the wooden beam that match the symbols on the metal doors. ▶︎ Clock Tower Puzzle Guide

Field Guide Page Puzzles

Several Field Guide Pages require you to solve a short puzzle before you can obtain it.

Revelio Pages: Most Field Guide Pages are obtained after casting Revelio in front of distinct furniture, statues, painting, or locations.
Dragon Brazier Puzzles: If you spot a brazier, cast Incendio or Confringo at it to light it on fire. This will activate the brazier and you will be able to obtain a Field Guide Page!
Statue Puzzles: If you encounter a statue holding an orb, cast Levioso on it, and you will get a Field Guide Page.
Moth Puzzles: Several art frames inside Hogwarts Castle are completely blank. If you cast Lumos in front of it, a photo of a nearby location will appear on the frame. All you need to do is find a moth at the depicted location and use Lumos to bring it back to the frame. Overworld (The Highlands) Puzzles

Several mini puzzles are scattered around the overworld of The Highlands. When things seem out of place, chances are they may reveal something after casting a spell on them!

Bone Pile Puzzle: You may come across a pile of skeletons and a bone totem in some rooms. Look around for bone piles and use Wingardium Leviosa to create platforms made of bones! ▶︎ How to Solve Bone Pile Puzzles
Light and Darkness Puzzle: Along Poppy Sweeting's questline, you will encounter a puzzle that involves moving around pillars and using shadows to solve a puzzle. ▶︎ How to Solve Light and Darkness Puzzle
Platforms: When doing certain quests, you may come across several wooden platforms. What you're supposed to do may vary, but try to use Accio, Levioso, Reparo, and other spells for you to progress through the level.
Wall Blocks with Handles: Some puzzles will require you to pull specific wall blocks with handles to open a gate or get access to a secret area. Use Revelio to highlight which wall block to pull, then use Accio to pull it. If you pull the wrong one, the puzzle will reset, so it is recommended to manually aim your Accio spell.
Locks: You may also encounter various locks and triggers that will open a gate or door if you hit it with an attack. If you're stuck in a room, try looking for one of these and hit it with a basic attack.
Moving Floors: Use Revelio to highlight moving floor and cast Arresto Momentum at it. ▶︎ How to Get Past Moving Floors
Eyeball Chests: Use the Disillusionment Charm while the Eyeball chest cannot detect you, sneak towards it, then open it.

General Tips for Solving Puzzles

Gather Hints Around the Puzzle Area

If you're having trouble solving a puzzle, you can check the surrounding area for hints by interacting with NPCs and objects. This might give you hints or even the solution itself, like the code for the Animal Puzzle Doors.

Progress the Story and Learn New Spells

Most of the puzzles in the game are solved by using the correct spells. Progress through the main storyline to unlock the spells that you will need to solve tricky puzzles.

There are also puzzles that require key items obtained from quests, such as the Landing Platform puzzles, which can be reached via a Flying Mount or a Broom.

How to Get All Spells

Use Revelio

Revelio not only reveals hidden items but also marks those you can interact with. Some puzzles have mechanisms that blend in with other objects, which you can easily spot by casting Revelio.

Cast Other Spells on Objects

Some collectibles are also hidden behind objects which require you to cast a spell to get them. If you come across an object that seems to be out of place, try casting a spell on it and you may uncover an item!
