You can identify and use unidentified gear at the Room of Requirement in Hogwarts Legacy. Learn about unidentified gear and how to identify gear in the Room of Requirement.

Unlock the Room of Requirement

Hogwarts Legacy Room of Requirement Quest

You can identify gear at the Room of Requirement. You can unlock the Room of Requirement during the main story in the quest also entitled The Room of Requirement, given to you by Professor Matilda Weasley. During this main quest, you'll conjure up the Idenfitication Station for 4 Moonstones.

Identify Gear at the Identification Station

The Identification Station is the desk with the owl perched on top of it. Here, you can identify gear and unlock the ability to use them. See the table below for a step by step guide.

Open the Map menu and select the Hogwarts Map. Select Secret Rooms and choose Room of Requirement to fast travel to that location.

Approach the Identification Station in the room. Press the Identify button to reveal all unidentified gear in your inventory.

What to Do with Identified Gear

Equip the Gear If It Has High Stats

Most of the Legendary Gear you come across appear as unidentified gear at first. Once you have identified them at the Room of Requirement, check its stats and equip it if it has higher stats than your current gear.

Sell the Gear

Hogwarts Legacy - Sell the Gear

If the identified gear has lower stats than your current gear, you can sell it to any of the shopkeepers in Hogsmeade.

It is not recommended to destroy any unidentified and identified gear in your inventory as you can sell these to the shopkeepers to earn gold.

What is Unidentified Gear?

Gear That Doesn't Have Stats Shown

Hogwarts Legacy Unidentified Gear

It's possible to obtain gear and items that don't have their stats shown, i.e. it will list Offence and Defence as "???" and be denoted with a lock icon. You cannot use these unidentified gear.

You can bring unidentified gear to the Room of Requirement in order to find out their stats and unlock the ability to use them.
