There are 9 classes that you need to attend as part of the main quest. These classes unlock new spells, gameplay mechanics, and story progression.

The Defence Against the Dark Arts is one of the most important classes in Hogwarts as it will teach you the fundamentals of protecting yourself against threats in the wizarding world.
The class is taught by Professor Dinah Hecat, a stern and strict mentor, she is a hands-on type of professor so you'll often see yourself dueling against other fellow wizards and witches.

Potions class will teach you how to brew potions and elixirs using recipes that feature a wide array of magical ingredients. These potions can give stat-boosting effects such as the Wiggenwald, which heals the player's health; and Focus, which reduces spell cooldown.
The class is taught by the gruff and keenly astute, Professor Aesop Sharp, who was a former auror that suffered a career-ending injury, which lead to his post-auror years settling as a Hogwarts potions professor.

Charms class are all about spells that will alter or hex an object and apply magical properties to it. The ever popular 'Wingardium Leviosa' is taught in this class in the Harry Potter Universe, so it's possible that players might see the infamous spell make an appearance during one of their class sessions here.
This class will be taught by the lighthearted Professor Abraham Ronen. His joyful personality may be due to the fact that he loves to play games such as Gobstones.

Transfiguration is a class that teaches students how to use magic to change the form and appearance of an object. Professor Matilda Weasley, the Deputy Headmistress, teaches the subject.
This class appears as part of Professor Weasley's Assignment quest, where she teaches you how to cast the Transformation spell.
Professor Weasley's Assignment Walkthrough
Students will learn the magical history of the wizarding world in this class, taught by the late Professor Binns, who is now one of the Hogwarts ghosts. Although the classroom and the professor are present in the castle, you cannot attend this class as it is not present in the main story.
Magical Theory is a class taught to first year students in Hogwarts. Eleazar Fig is the professor that teaches this subject.
Much like the History of Magic subject, this is a class that you cannot attend as it does not appear in the main story.
As mentioned in the Official Hogwarts Legacy Gameplay Showcase, classes are part of the main storyline chapters and also side missions in which attendance is optional. Players can learn how to advance their spells and get to know their professors while attending classes.
Classes that are part of the Main Story will be a main source of new spells and major abilities essential to progressing the story, while optional classes give the player other spells and skills that provide a richer gameplay experience for those interested.
