How to Unlock Absconder Encounter and Location

Visit Aranshire

The Absconder Encounter side quest becomes available upon visiting Aranshire for the first time. Since Aranshire is located a bit far from Hogwarts Castle, you can only easily visit there once you get your broom and are able to fly across the map.

Absconder Encounter Walkthrough

Objectives
1 Talk with Edgar Adley.
Edgar Adley runs a stall in Aranshire.

Absconder Encounter Step 2
Find the Absconder's Cave.
The entrance to the cave is located in the Forbidden Forest, south of the North Ford Bog Entrance Floo Flame fast travel point. Marked on the map, the entrance is rocky area covered with spider webs.

Keep heading northwest through the maze's tunnels, defeating the spiders you encounter along the way, and you'll arrive at the cave where the Absconder is.

Defeat the Absconder.
Keep your distance and focus on dispatching the Absconder. No need to defeat the smaller spiders, unless they get close to you.

Absconder Encounter Step 4
Find the heirloom Milo left behind.
Go to the western cavern behind the cobweb. Collect the Heirloom Pocket Watch past the spider eggs and in front of the treasure chest.

Absconder Encounter Step 5
Return the heirloom to Edgar.
Edgar Adley is back in Aranshire, at the same stall you initially spoke to him in.
Note that if you ask him for money, he will stop selling you items! So weigh your options whether 300 Gold Galleons is worth it.

Absconder Encounter Tips and Strategies

Keep Your Distance from the Absconder

The giant spider will be quite overleveled, but only has 1 attack wherein it slams its body forward. Just keep yourself at a distance and use high damaging spells.

The Absconder Boss Fight Guide

Asking for Gold Has a Consequence

When returning the heirloom, you can select the dialogue option I'd like a reward. to earn 300 Gold as a reward (on top of the base 500 payment).

However, asking for a reward will make Edgar Adley refusr your business in the future. You won't be able to buy or sell at his shop any more. If you're willing to risk his animosity towards you, this isn't too grave of a consequence, since he doesn't sell any unique items and you can just sell your own items at Hogsmeade shops anyway.
