Hogwarts Legacy takes place in the late 1800s, decades before the time of Harry Potter and the other beloved characters from the series. Around this time, rumors of a Goblin Rebellion are spreading, and a mysterious corrupted force is affecting beasts and enemies alike
Who Do You Play As?
A New Student Starting Your Fifth Year
In Hogwarts Legacy, you will be playing a new student who just entered Hogwarts as a fifth year—much later than when other students usually enter Hogwarts. And unlike most witches and wizards, your character will have the ability to see traces of Ancient Magic and manipulate it.
Because of this connection to Ancient Magic, you become involved with a rising Goblin Rebellion. You will gradually uncover the mysteries behind this form of magic and prevent the Goblin Rebellion as you accompany your character on their journey.

The Long Road to Hogwarts
The story begins with the main protagonist being escorted to their new school at Hogwarts by Professor Fig, a Hogwarts teacher, and George Osric, a Ministry of Magic worker. Suddenly, a dragon attacks your carriage with only you and Professor Fig escaping through a portkey.
This teleports you both and eventually leads you to Gringotts, where you cross paths with Ranrok, the main antagonist and goblin with plans against all wizardkind. You also discover your connection to Ancient Magic, a mysterious form of powerful magic.
After narrowly escaping Ranrok and other enemies, you are transported to Hogwarts to start your journey as a student.
The Keepers and the Map Chamber
While uncovering the secrets of the Ancient Magic together with Ranrok and the rising Goblin Rebellion, you and professor Fig will eventually gain access to the secret Map Chamber located deep beneath Hogwarts. Here you will meet the portraits of the four Keepers, Percival Rackham, Charles Rookwood, Niamh Fitzgerald, and San Bakar.
They possess the same ability of seeing and manipulating Ancient Magic as you, and have sworn to protect and keep this magic secret from the wizarding world. These past Hogwarts professors will help you gradually learm more about Ancient Magic through Four Trials that they each prepared.
Completing Keeper's Trials allow you to look into their past one at a time, using their memories in a pensieve. This gradually unveils the truth about Ancient Magic and how the Keepers need to keep it secret after a young witch named Isidora Morganach misused it.
Stopping the Goblin Rebellion
You eventually learn that Ranrok wants to use the Ancient Magic for goblins to rise up against wizardkind, and is tracking down Ancient Magic repositories to extract them.
An ally goblin named Lodgok tells of the Final Repository located beneath the Map Chamber. You and Professor Fig race to get there before Ranrok does, but he arrives first and extracts all the Ancient Magic.
You battle the overpowered Ranrok and defeat him, but Professor Fig is critically wounded during the fight. The ending will depend on whether you choose to keep the Ancient Magic repository closed, or open and reveal it to the world.
Did JK Rowling Write the Story?
No, JK Rowling Is Not Involved with Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacy is an original story set about a hundred years before the timeline of JK Rowling's books, and she is not involved in the making of Hogwarts Legacy. While we won't be seeing Harry Potter or any other familiar characters, Hogwarts Legacy is set in the same wizarding world.
