Umamusume: Pretty Derby Releases Globally on Steam

Umamusume: Pretty Derby is racing towards its English release, bringing the horse girls racing simulation globally. Developer Cygames announced on Twitter (X) on April 27 that it will launch on June 26, 2025, with pre-registrations starting April 28.
The game was first released exclusively in Japan on February 24, 2021 for iOS, Android, and PC. It tells a unique story where legendary racehorses are reborn into "horse girls" or "Umamusume," having the appearance of a typical high school girl while having ears, tails, endurance, and speed of horses. These horse girls train at Tokyo's Tracen Academy, where they aspire to become famous racers and idols alike.
According to its Steam page description, the game allows players to "scout featured trainees and supporters as you navigate the immersive sports life simulation through the game’s in-depth training system and top-of-the-line 3D graphics!" It has a gacha system where players can choose from over 20 Uma Musumes (literally, horse girls) to scout and train, and compete in races and showcase stunning performances.
Mobile and handheld video games news website PocketGamer.biz reported in March 2025 that Umamusume: Pretty Derby’s Japanese version reached over $2.5 billion for its mobile revenue in just 4 years. The game also came close to reaching $1 billion in its launch year in 2021. With its upcoming English version release, Cygames hopes to replicate its success in Japan globally.
Pre-Registration Now Open!
Following its English version release date announcement, Cygames revealed on Twitter (X) on April 28 that pre-registrations are now open, and players will receive rewards to kick off their racing journey. These rewards include a bunch of in-game items and consumables, and most importantly, Carats, which are used to pull from their character and support card banners.

Additionally, they are having a pre-registration event where participants can get a chance to win round-trip plane tickets to Japan and more. To join, fans need only follow Umamusume: Pretty Derby’s official English Twitter account and repost the event post during the specified period. The event ends on May 11 at 11:59 PM UTC.
