North Ford Bog Region

Directions: Head east of Pitt-Upon-Ford Floo Flame. The butterflies can be found across a covered bridge. Follow them up the cliff wall and through the dirt path, then to the left by the shore of the lake with a waterfall. There you will find the chest.

Forbidden Forest Region

Directions: You will find the butterflies in the south of the Forbidden Forest Region in an area with poachers. Follow the butterflies up the path past some poacher rangers. Cross the wooden bridge and turn right in front of the dilapidated building to find the chest.

Hogsmeade Valley Region

Directions: The butterflies are to the south of the East Hogsmeade Valley Floo Flame on a grassy hill near a sheep. Follow them up the hill past some poachers and a Merlin Trial to find the chest under a tree.

North Hogwarts Region

Directions: In the northwestern side of the North Hogwarts Region, you'll find the butterflies along a dirt path. Follow them up the winding dirt path until you reach an area full of stony cliffs to find the chest.

Directions: Head north from the Forbidden Forest Floo Flame to find the butterflies. They will lead you down the river, under the bridge then off the river. Turn right past the signs and the chest will be located beside a rock over a hill.

South Hogwarts Region

Directions: To the southwest of the Quidditch Stadium, you will find the butterflies near a big stone arch formed by some cliffs. They will lead you to a nearby area guarded by some spiders to find the chest.

Directions: Find the butterflies in an open field to the south of Aranshire. They will lead you to a nearby cliffside to a chest.

Hogwarts Valley Region

Directions: You will find the butterflies under the archway of a bridge to the east of the Central Hogwarts Valley Floo Flame. Follow them up through the grass and they will lead you to the side of a dirt path and reveal the chest.

Directions: The butterflies can be found to the west of Keenbridge, in a path between two small cliffs. Follow it up the short cliff wall and it will lead you through some Dark Mongrels, revealing the chest just behind them.

Directions: You will find the butterflies floating by a river to the southeast of the Hogwarts Valley Region, by the bandit camp castle. Follow the butterflies down the river and they'll lead you to the chest sitting by the riverbank.

Feldcroft Region

Directions: The butterflies are at the top of a cliff to the north of the Rookwood Castle Floo Flame. Follow them down the cliff and they will lead you to the chest under a tree.

Directions: To the southeast of the Feldcroft Catacomb Floo Flame, you can find the butterflies hovering high in the air by the side of a cliff. Follow them and they will reveal the chest nearby the cliffside.

Directions: To the east of the Tomb of Treachery Floo Flame, you will find the butterflies in a field nearby a lamppost. Follow them past a Merlin Trial and down the rocky hill, past a stone wall and up a short cliff, then around a two bushes of lacewing flies. FInally, they will lead you to the chest by a cliffside.

Directions: The butterflies are flying above the arch of a bridge beside the South Poidsear Coast Floo Flame. Fly up to them and follow them across the bridge, then along the path and around the stone buildings. It will lead you behind the large building and reveal the chest under a tree around some flowers.

Directions: You'll find the butterflies north of the Clagmar Coast Region, on a hilltop near a medium bandit camp. Follow them on a path down the hill and they will lead you to the chest nearby.

Butterfly Chest Rewards

Be Rewarded with Conjurations

Finding and opening Butterfly Chests will reward you with various Conjurations found in Collection Chests. Note that opening these Butterfly Chests do not count toward the total Collection Chests found in each region, and, as such, should be treated as a bonus.

Conjuration spells are used to customize the Room of Requirement and Vivariums in Hogwarts Legacy.

Complete Follow the Butterflies Quest

Talk to Clementine WIllardsey in the Three Broomsticks. She will tell you about the butterflies in the Forbidden Forest and ask you to follow them for her. It will unlock the Follow the Butterflies quest.

You must follow the butterflies and let them reveal the chests, as they are otherwise impossible to find.
