Essential Spells

As their name suggests, Essential Spells are a type of spell that is useful in many scenarios in the game. These spells can be used in combat or for exploring the different areas of the game.

Force spells are a type of spell that can be used to move targets in an area. These spells can be useful in combat as players can throw around objects to add more elements to their fighting style.

Control spells provide the additional utility in combat as these spells can alter a target's state or impairing their movement.

While Utility spells can mostly be used while exploring different parts of the game, players can also incorporate them in combat. An example of this would be to cast the Disillusionment Charm and perform surprise attacks on unsuspecting enemies.

How to Use Spells

Slot Spells by Holding Right D-Pad to Access the Spells Menu

When you start the game, you will be able to access four spells at one time during combat (that is, once you've unlocked at least four spells). This way, you can vary your combat strategy and experiment to find the best spell combinations.

You can equip and change spells by holding the Right D-Pad to access the spell menu for all players playing on a controller, or pressing T for PC players.

Other Spell Slots Can Be Unlocked!

Later on in the game, you'll be able to unlock three more spell diamonds in the Core Talents skill tree, giving you access to a total of sixteen Spells in combat. Once you've unlocked an additional spell diamond, switch between diamonds by holding R2 and pressing right or left on the d-pad.

Tap R2 for Basic Attacks

The basic attack is a simple, plain shot without any special properties. Although it is not very powerful, the basic attack is essential for stringing together combos and doesn't have a cooldown, unlike more powerful spells.

Hold R2 and Press One of the Buttons to Use Spells

To use more powerful Spells that are assigned to the spell diamond, hold R2 and press the associated button to use the spell of your choosing. The spell diamond will expand slightly and show the assigned button while holding R2.

Damage Spells Have Cooldown inBattle

Damage Spells will go on a cooldown once used in a battle. You can tell a spell is on cooldown by looking in the bottom right corner of the screen - if the spell's icon is filling up, it's still on cooldown and out of commission momentarily.

Be mindful of the cooldown as casting a spell on cooldown will cause your character to unable to act for a short time.
