Ancient Magic in Hogwarts Legacy | ||
Did you know that the logo of Hogwarts Legacy itself holds a little easter egg? It contains the swirling, flame-like magic that has come to represent Ancient Magic in the game! You can see a few instances of this in the trailers as well, showing when Ancient Magic is being used!
No student wants to receive a Howler, especially from their parents while at school! But in the background as you walk around the school grounds, you just might hear one or two with parents telling their kids off!
Just like Ron Weasley, this poor student seems to be in the middle of a scolding from their parent.
A very important part of Quidditch is the Golden Snitch! On the loading screen of the game, you just might catch one flying around.
Alternatively, you may hear one whizzing about the corridors!
House points were a concept introduced in the movies and books, but it was never made clear in the films how these points were tallied. In the books, the House Points were recorded in magical hourglasses filled with gems!
While House Points are not a mechanic in the game, it's a nice nod to the books!
The Goblin Rebellion in Hogwarts Legacy isn't the first of it's kind. In fact, there was one in 1612, where an inn in Hogsmeade was the headquarters during that time. While Hermione hadn't explained in the books which Inn she meant, it could only be the Three Broomsticks or the Hog's Head.
This would make this scene from the trailer even more meaningful, considering the possible history!
Story and Plot Summary | Goblin Rebellion Explained
While we're not going on underwater adventures in Hogwarts Legacy, that doesn't mean there isn't a nod to it in the game! In fact, you can find a poster for Gillyweed Tonic in Zonko's!
A familiar phrase for any Hogwarts Student is Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus or in English: Never tickle a sleeping dragon. This motto can be seen in the hall that connects most parts of the castle along with a mural that moves!
Slytherins would be familiar with the Giant Squid that lives in the lake by their very windows, but players will be able to see them during Flying Class!
If you've got toast to spare, don't forget to give them a slice.

While he was not a huge part of the movies, Peeves is the poltergeist everyone knew in the books! He's back with more mischief in Hogwarts Legacy.
You'll normally see him causing chaos around the castle, so keep an eye out!
Wendelin the Weird was a witch who loved to have herself burned at the stake by casting a charm on herself to keep the flames from hurting her.
You can catch a portrait of her in the Defense Against the Dark Arts tower!
The house of Gaunt's reputation is as infamous as ever as it was in Harry Potter. Ominis Gaunt is a student you will meet during In the Shadow of the Undercroft and may be an ancestor of Voldemort himself!
All Ancestors in Hogwarts Legacy
While he wasn't very prominent in the movies, Sir Cadogan was quite the character in the books. Be careful when passing by him as he's likely to challenge you to a duel!
To find him, head up four flights of stairs to the right of the Central Hall Floo Flame.

An iconic Weasley look is bright red hair, freckles, and a hand-me-down robe or clothing. At Zonko's in Hogsmeade, you can catch 2 red haired kids, in what look like hand-me-down sweaters!
Likely twin Weasleys or even a nod to Fred and George!

If you're playing a character that stays in the male common rooms, you may notice that going up the stairs to the female common rooms will cause the stairs to turn into a slide. For characters in the female dorms, you are free to roam both sides!
This is a reference to the books where the boys can't enter the girl's dorm. But, if you're in the Ravenclaw House, you are instead barred entry by statues!
In the books and movies, the Prefect's bathroom was the place where Harry had discovered the answer to the golden egg when he entered the Triwizard Tournament.
You'll get a chance to see it in Hogwarts Legacy as well, just as it was described in the books!
Hufflepuffs will know that their Common Room is one of the best for all those foodies out there, because it's right next to the Kitchens.
You can find the entrance behind a painting of fruit, and just like the books all you need to do is tickle the pear to enter!
Fans will recognize the familiar statue that Harry used to sneak into Hogsmeade! The One Eyed Witch can be found next to the Grand Staircase where the Faculty Tower Floo Flame is.
If you're worried about missing it, the quest Dissending for Sweets will bring you there!
Unfortunately, you can't enter the Chamber of Secrets. But, you can still find the very sink that marks the entrance to it!
One of the Field Guide pages references this and can be collected at this spot.

Harry and his friends always visited Hagrid for the comfort and warmth that he embodies. The Groundkeeper's Shed radiates the same vibe that it is without a doubt the very hut the lovable giant will eventually occupy.
We will never forget the time Hermione punched Draco in the face close to where Hagrid's Hut is located. Relive the iconic moment by visiting the area!
When Sirius was held at Hogwarts he was locked up in Professor Flitwick's Office in the books, and in a cell at the top of the tower in the films. You can find the cell of this Prisoner of Azkaban above the Charms Classroom!
Honeydukes is a sweet shop in Hogsmeade that contains serveral wizarding confections. The shop contains secrets that reference the books and movies!
All Hogsmeade Shops and Locations
Peppermint Imps are all the rage in the books and movies, with Hermione buying Harry as many as she could when he couldn't join their trips to Hogsmeade! Try it and see for yourself why it was so hot!
Eating one of these candies lets you produce different noises from an elephant, monkey, lion, eagle and even a train whistle.
Another magical confectionary featured is the Fizzing Whizzbees. Eating one of these sweets causes your character to levitate a few inches off the ground.
A famous spot for the Hogwarts Ghosts who come to celebrate their Deathday! Just don't eat anything, it's rotten.
To get here, when facing the Slytherin Common Room, take the path to the right. Follow the hallway without entering the bathrooms or the dark room with the stairs. You'll eventually come across a metal gate with a Level 1 Lock. Open it to access the Deathday Party room!

In the side quest, Solved by the Bell, you will encounter a music puzzle that requires you to play a short tune. This tune is actually the iconic Hedwig's Theme!

Kneazles are a common creature kept as pets. But this kind of Kneazle in particular has a look that is very similar to Hermione's cat, Crookshanks!
Spell | Effect | How to Get |

Transformation | Transforms a target into an alternate form | Complete Professor Weasley's Assignment |
In the game, there is a spell that allows you to change a target into another form like objects! You may also notice that it's a goblet with a rat tail, similar to Scabbers in the first Harry Potter film, when Ron failed to fully transfigure him.
When the Golden Trio infiltrated the Slytherin Common Room in their second year, Hermione spent ages perfecting a Polyjuice Potion in Moaning Myrtle's bathroom.
If you happen to stumble upon the Girls bathroom by Professor Fig's Classroom, you'll find this little setup inside. Hermione probably wasn't the first (or last) with a similar idea!
In the Hospital Wing, you can find a poor student bent over a bucket, puking slugs just like Ron did in the films. Nasty little buggers!
Albeit, they were definitely not fashionable during his time, but Ron's Robes can be found in the game by completing the 3 Hogwarts Secrets!
In-game, they are called Fashionable Dress Robes.

An ode to the performance during the Triwizard Tournament, you'll find the Frog Choir! Adorably croaky in the best ways!
Did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire? Cause you can find the very container of the Goblet of Fire in Hogwarts Legacy!
Fans of the books and movies may be looking at the Daedalian keys and thinking they look familiar! That's cause they're similar to the keys in the first book/movie that Flitwick enchanted to protect the Philisopher's/Sorcerer's Stone!
All Daedalian Key and House Token Locations
It seems that sneaking out, pranking, and creating chaos are just the kind of things you can find in the Weasely family!
Just like how Fred and George gave Harry the means to sneak out of the castle, Garreth provides you with a secret entrance you can use to get to Hogsmeade!

There are a few small easter eggs from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them, namely Newt's friends in doll form! You can find a few of them around in the game, including the tutorial!
Thanks to our commenters who shared some tips on where to find some of these.
You may come across a portrait of a Wizard in the halls of Hogwarts who looks like Dumbledore from the first Harry Potter films. While it hasn't been confirmed, it's still nice to think of it as a nod to the late actor.
While we can't enter the Chamber of Secrets or face a Basilisk, there's a small nod to it in a note from Slytherin himself. Enemies of the heir beware!
Remember that scene with Professor McGonagall during the Battle of Hogwarts in Deathly Hallows? Of course you do. The opening to Hogwarts Legacy is just as iconic with a very similar scene with the Pensieve Sentries.
Ron would be delighted to know that a side quest in Hogwarts Legacy is to Follow the Butterflies and not the spiders this time!
Hogwarts will be fully decorated during the Christmas season in game, but the festive Great Hall pays a wonderful tribute to Harry's first Christmas at Hogwarts. It is even decorated the same way as it was in the first movie!
You can run into some sleeping portraits all over Hogwarts Casle at night. Though, try not to wake them up like Harry did in the headmaster's office.
Inside the Werewolf Tapestry Room, there are tapestries that tell of a tale about a witch that gets bitten by a werewolf. While there aren't any werewolves in the game, there is a separate tapestry (unrelated to the story about the witch) that shows a werewolf in a forest.
This particular tapestry seems to reference a scene from Prisoner of Azkaban where Remus Lupin turns into a werewolf.
How to Enter the Werewolf Tapestry Room
You can find mini Wizard's Chess Boards playing themselves within the Hogwarts Castle, and even come across human-sized boards in different instances throughout the game! Solve them and make Ron Weasley proud!
When you first learn Avada Kedavra from Sebastian, the symbol resembles Harry Potter's iconic lightning scar on his forehead.

3 Hogwarts Secrets: Locations and Solutions
You may have noticed that as you progress through the game, various things on your character screen will change! For one, the screen will match the current design and theme of your Room of Requirement.
But there are a number of other, smaller, changes that happen as you progress!
Examples of Character Screen Changes |

|
In the Slytherin Common Room, you have a view of the Black Lake! If you tap the glass a bit too much, you might catch a glimpse of it's underwater resident.
If it's not working for you, try using a different set of windows!
Alternatively, you can use Lumos on the windows to get the fish to stare at you.
In Kogawa's office, you'll find a tiny diorama of a Quidditch Game!
Around various lakes, you'll find a stack of stones you can play with and skip across the water!
Ever had that creepy feeling that somebody's watching you? Take a look around because it might just be a bust! They have a habit of staring.
Many have pointed out the similarities between Hogwarts Legacy and Skyrim in terms of gameplay, and it is not unlikely that some inspiration was taken from the fifth Elder Scrolls installment.
If that is the case, it is possible a reference to the game's iconic Nord Helmet has been slipped into Hogwarts Legacy.
