The In the Shadow of the Mine main quest unlocks after completing Professor Weasley's Assignment. You must also reach level 22 first before you can take on the quest.

| Description | Sebastian is waiting near the entrance to the Overlook Mine to the northeast of Upper Hogsfield. |
| Objectives | |

| 1 | Meet Sebastian by the Overlook. The quest can only be started at nighttime. If you arrive at the marker in the day, Wait in the glowing circle to pass the time. |
| 2 | Reach the entrance to the mine. Attack the goblins along the path to the mine. They're relatively easy to dispatch, so this is simpler to do than sneaking past them. Plus, you get to loot the camps afterward. |
| 2a | Turn east inside the second goblin camp into the Overlook Mine. |
| 3 |  Search for the Rune Symbol. Follow the path until you end up sliding down into a pit. Dispatch of the goblins there. Afterward, use Wingardium Leviosa on the box with a handle on it to place it beside the ledge. Climb onto the ledge from the box. |
| 3a |  Head straight from there and slide down. Head to the bridge up on a ledge northeast of you. Use Reparo on it so that you can cross. Fight the Venomous Scurriour that comes out on the other side. |
| 3b | Keep heading straight until you slide down into yet another cavern. This one will be filled with goblins and spiders. |
| 4 | Defeat the enemies. |
| 5 |  Investigate the cavern. Use Wingardium Leviosa on the box with a handle on it in the southwest area of the cavern. Bring it to the ledge in front of it, so that you could climb up onto the ledge. |
| 5a |  Use Incendio or Confringo on the webs blocking the rune on top of the ledge. Drop down and hit all 3 runes in the cavern with a basic attack as quickly as you can. The gate will open afterward. |
| 6 | Explore the chamber. Open the chest to the southwest to obtain the Second Triptych Canvas Piece. |
| 7 | Check on Sebastian. Simply talk to Sebastian. |
| 8 | Use the magic passageway. Head to the crystallised stone wall in the southeast corner of the chamber to enter the Undercroft. |
When tracking the quest, the marker will show you how to get out of every single area you pass through. Because of this, you can be aware of which is the main path and which are diverging paths leading to chests. Use this knowledge to go exploring for treasure and more Gold!
