A jacket for a true edgerunner. Belonged once to David Martinez, and before that - his mother, Gloria. |
This iconic jacket is owned by David Martinez, the lead character in the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime series. It was originally an EMT jacket worn by his mother, Gloria Martinez, who worked at the Night City Medical Center.
After she passed away, David wore the jacket and modified it by painting a logo on its back. Later in the anime, when David leaves to confront Adam Smasher, he removes the jacket, leaving it in the crew's car with Falco.
After Falco escapes with the car at the end of Edgerunners, he keeps it in his possession until the events of Cyberpunk 2077. As V comes into contact with Falco during the Over the Edge side job, he decides to pass the jacket on after seeing how V and David had a lot in common.
After the success of the anime, Patch 1.6 released, adding items and quests that gave a nod to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. David's Jacket, along with Rebecca's Shotgun and the David Martinez Drink at the Afterlife are some of the few in-game items added that tie-in the lore of Edgerunners to Night City in 2077.
As of Patch 2.0, most clothing items in the game no longer have armor and mod slots. This change affects David's Jacket. Once you retrieve it, the jacket will no longer have any armor bonuses or mod slots. Now, it will be purely cosmetic in function.
All 2.0 Changes to Clothing and Armor
To get David's Jacket, you need to progress through the Over the Edge Side Job, which was added in the version 1.6 update of the game.
Over the Edge Quest Walkthrough
The quest starts when you play a specific Braindance near Megabuilding H4's Entrance. Megabuilding H4 is the huge skyscraper at the south part of the Arroyo subdistrict in Santo Domingo.
When you reach the Megabuilding, go to its east side to find its entrance; you'll find it surrounded by flashing red 'No Entry' signs. Go to the corner located to the right of this entrance to find a trash can beside a graffiti of the Edgerunners logo. Approach the trash can and play the Braindance on it.
This BD is a bit different from the others in the game; it's a video showing a snippet of the Edgerunners anime. Watch the BD until the end, although you can skip it with no consequence.
After watching the BD, take out your phone and text Muamar 'El Capitan' Reyes for information. He'll send a few messages, and when you're given a choice of what to reply, pick either one as it doesn't matter.
After the conversation, you'll have to wait at least an in-game day to receive a response. You can skip time by 24 hours through the menu and immediately receive the message. Although the quest says it's a message from El Capitan that you should be expecting, you'll actually receive a message from Falco instead, the driver from David's crew.
Unfortunately, sometimes, skipping time for 24 hours won't trigger the message. If it doesn't, you can skip time a few times to try if it works. If you still didn't get a message, just play through the game and do something else in the meantime such as doing other quests; you should get the message after a few in-game hours.
Once you receive the text from Falco, reply to him in your messages. When you're prompted to reply, pick either of the choices. Wait for him to finish texting; he'll mention having left something for you with El Capitan.
After talking to Falco, you'll gain a quest marker to the Dam Viewpoint at the Rancho Coronado subdistrict of Santo Domingo. You'll find El Capitan there; you can collect David's Jacket in the box beside him and finish the quest.
Update 2.0 added a fresh wave of easter eggs to the game which includes plots for David and the Edgerunners crew at the Columbarium of Night City. While you're in the dam area, you can don David's Jacket and visit his grave since the Columbarium is a short drive from where you meet El Capitan.
