Purah is returning to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as a researcher of ancient technology. Read on for details on Purah's backstory from Breath of the Wild, character traits, as well as her role in Tears of the Kingdom.
Purah will be the one to give Link his paraglider. You can get this while progressing the Find Princess Zelda Main Quest.
The Paraglider is one of the most important tools of the game as it can help you navigate inaccessible or hard-to-reach areas such as the Sky Islands.
Purah is the creator of the Purah Pad, a powerful device with several features that can help you with your adventures. It is first introduced as a tool that you can use as a map and to know all the quests you have unlocked.
Eventually, through quests as well, you will unlock other features like Sensor +, Hyrule Compendium, and the Camera.
How to Unlock the Camera and Compendium
Given Purah's comprehension of ancient technology and the emergence of the Zonai ancient technology, Purah and Robbie will be active researchers of the Zonai ancient tech.

Purah is a Sheikah scientist who specializes in researching ancient technology. She is a brilliant fellow who is very opinionated and she tends to get carried away with her work.
In Tears of the Kingdom, her research focuses mainly on Zonai Technology and Gloom Activities all over Hyrule.
New Gloom Status Condition: How to Cure
Purah is the older sister of Impa, the chief elder of Kakariko Village. They were both born in Kakariko Village into a family that was loyal to the Royal Family of Hyrule.
Before the Great Calamity, Purah formed a research team together with her colleague, Robbie, to help Princess Zelda research about the ancient technology that can help them prepare for Calamity Ganon's return.
Purah and the others uncovered the Four Divine Beasts, Ancient Guardians, and many other ancient relics that they tried to restore and master to use against Calamity Ganon.
What Happened to the Divine Beasts?
After their preparations with the Divine Beasts and Guardians failed during the Great Calamity, Purah escapes and continues to research ancient tech as the director of the Ancient Tech Lab located in Hateno Village.
There she meets Link a hundred years later with the Sheikah Slate, and Purah is the one who helps him complete the Sheikah Slate Runes and upgrades.
Before meeting Link, Purah was experimenting with an Age-Reversal Rune in order to extend a person's life-span and accidentally reversed her age to that of a little girl. Fortunately it was only her physical form that was reversed and she retained her adult mental state.
Her adult appearance can only be seen in flashback cutscenes and in Age of Calamity, but she remains in her younger form all throughout Breath of the Wild.
Purah's name came from her Japanese name Purua, which is an anagram for the Japanese word for Apple, Apuru. This follows the trend of Sheikah characters being named after fruits like Paya who got her name from Papaya.
Kate Higgins reprises her role from Breath of the Wild and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity to continue providing the voice of Purah in Tears of the Kingdom. She is credited as Catherine Higgins, who also voiced other popular characters such as Lissa of Fire Emblem: Awakening and Pauline from Super Mario Odyssey.
