How to Apply Status Effects to Food

Use Ingredients That Provide Buffs

TOTK - Status Effects and Buffs in Recipes

You can add status effects and bonuses to your cooked dishes and elixirs by using ingredients that give buffs. In a recipe, substitute ingredients with different alternate types to get the effect that you need.

For example, when cooking Mushroom Skewers, using Hylian Shrooms alone will give you a dish with no effect. Throw in a Stamella Shroom and you get an Energizing Mushroom Skewer that restores stamina.

Increase Buff Level with Multiple Ingredients

TOTK - Increase Buff Level with Multiple Ingredients

You can increase the level of potency of the dishes that you cook by combining two ingredients that provide the same buff.

However, do not combine two different ingredients that provide two different buffs because they will just cancel each other out, leaving you with a dish with no buffs.

Combine Ingredients with Critters for Stronger Elixirs

TOTK - Combine Ingredients with Critters for Stronger Elixirs

Critters and Monster Parts are the main ingredients to make elixirs, and cannot be made without one or the other. However, you can increase an elixir's buff level by combining a critter and other non-critter ingredients with the same effect.

For example, the required ingredients for a Sneaky Elixir are at least one Sunset Firefly and any Monster Part. Throw in a Sneaky ingredient, like a Silent Princess or a Silent Shroom, and the elixir will grant a higher level of the Sneaky buff.

List of Elixirs and Recipes

Add More Monster Parts for Longer Effect Durations

If you want the status effects to last longer for your elixirs, add in more Monster Parts to increase its effect duration. The rarer a Monster Part is, the longer the duration.

The longest duration a buff can have is 30 minutes, which can be obtained by adding a Dragon's Horn to your recipe. We highly recommend mastering Dragon Part farming to take full advantage of buff extensions.
