Equip the Desert Voe Set for Desert Heat

Zelda TotK - Equip the Desert Voe Set for Desert Heat

The Desert Voe Set provides heat resistance as its main effect. The most accessible Desert Voe piece you can get is the Desert Voe Headband, which you can purchase for 450 Rupees at the Kara Kara Bazaar.

Equip the Flamebreaker Set for Volcanic Heat

Zelda TotK - Equip the Flamebreaker Set for Volcanic Heat

If you are travelling to Death Mountain, equipping any of the Flamebreaker armor pieces is required as the area contains volcanic heat that decreases your hearts quickly.

If the armor pieces are too expensive, you can create Fireproof Elixirs to obtain the same heat resistance to combat the volcanic heat.

Cook Dishes and Elixirs

Zelda TotK - Cooking Pot
If you cannot access Kara Kara Bazaar just yet, cooking dishes using ingredients with heat resistance will provide you this effect.

In order to create dishes that have a heat resistance, it is necessary to use two of the same ingredients (or more) with this effect. For example, using multiple Hydromelons or Chillshrooms will always produce dishes with heat resistance.

Risk of Using Hearty Ingredients
Using Hearty Ingredients, like Hearty Salmon, will remove heat resistance or any other effects from your dish. It is best to cook using ingredients with similar effects or no additional effects to prevent them from disappearing.

Eat Frozen Dishes

Zelda TotK - Frozen Dishes
Eating Frozen Dishes is also a great way to get heat resistance. The best method to get Frozen Food is to visit any icy region and drop ingredients on the ground to freeze them.

Alternatively, you can also use any ice weapon you have to freeze ingredients.

Stay Under the Shade or In Bodies of Water

If the above methods are not available, you can stay under the shade or in bodies of water to prevent yourself from taking damage from the unbearable heat. Note that these are temporary methods and the effects will wore off if you move away from these areas.

Heat Levels Explained

Has 2 Heat Levels

Zelda TotK - Kara Kara Bazaar Overworld

Heat Levels are indicators telling you how dangerous a certain place is with high temperatures. It is important to match the Heat Level of the place with equipment or dishes that provides Heat Resistance of the same level. For example, to successfully explore Gerudo Desert, you need to have armor that provides Heat Resistance Level 2.

Notable places that have Heat Level 1 are Kara Kara Bazaar and Gerudo Town have Heat Level 1, while Gerudo Desert and beyond have Heat Level 2.

Temperature Gauge Becomes Red When Under Unbearable Heat

Zelda TotK - Temperature Gauge
At the bottom right of the screen, there is a temperature guage that indicates the current temperature of any area you visit. This indicator will turn red to let you know that you will be taking damage due to having low heat resistance.

Sources of Heat Damage

Desert Heat

Zelda TotK - Gerudo Desert
Desert Heat is one of the main sources of heat damage that will gradually deplete Link's health, especially when exploring unprotected. It is important to equip armors and weapons with heat resistances when exploring these areas to prevent Link from taking too much damage from the extreme temperatures.

Volcanic Heat

Zelda TotK - Goron City Overworld Image

Volcanic Heat from Goron City will also hurt Link, so make sure to also come prepared when exploring this area, especially when doing the Yunobo of Goron City Main Quest.

You will take damage quickly under volcanic heat

Unlike Desert Heat, Volcanic Heat will quickly damage Link. Having the Flamebreaker set will help you prevent this from happening as it has enough heat resistance to protect him from heavy heat damages. You can also take Fireproof Elixirs for extra protective measures.

Direct Contact from Fire and Magma

Zelda TotK - Campfire

Another source of heat damage is from direct contact. Touching open flames or magma will quickly damage Link, so make sure to also equip heat-resistant armors and have enough frozen dishes ready when exploring places with possible direct contact.
