A DLC Expansion Pass could be announced for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom at a later date, similar to its predecessor Breath of the Wild. Read on for updates on DLC release news as well as DLC speculation.
List of Contents
At the time of writing, there have been no official announcements on DLC for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
An archived version of the official Zelda website mentions the there might be a DLC planned for the game. However, this information has been removed at the time being.
As Tears of the Kingdom is expected to be one of Nintendo's biggest releases in the following year, it would be a surprise if no DLC was added at a later date. Both Breath of the Wild, as well as the Warriors-style spin off Age of Calamity received an expansion pass that contained two waves of additional content.
| DLC | Release Date |
|---|---|
Expansion Pass DLC Pack 1: The Master Trials |
June 30th, 2017 |
Expansion Pass DLC Pack 2: The Champions' Ballad |
Dec. 7th, 2017 |
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's initial release launched on March 3rd, 2017, with the two DLC Packs releasing later in the same year.
Based on this, it would not be unreasonable to say that Tears of the Kingdom might get the same treatment, and receive DLC updates within the year of its release, perhaps in September 2023 and February 2024.
Note! |
The following is completely speculation based on info from Breath of the Wild. |

Considering Breath of the Wild's first DLC pack was a gauntlet of challenges that rewarded you with a permanent upgrade to the Master Sword, Tears of the Kingdom might also add DLC with more difficult content that rewards the player with a permanent power up.

With the introduction of new abilities in Tears of the Kingdom, there is a strong chance that the DLC will further explore the possibility of adding new abilities through Techniques or Vows.
It is also likely that the DLC will introduce a new ability that can permanently power up the Master Sword, similar to the quests that rewards the upgrade in Breath of the Wild.
All Abilities and How to Unlock

The Expansion Pass for Breath of the Wild provided players with new armor that had various effects when worn. Some of these were collaborations with other Nintendo games (Xenoblade Chronicles 2), so perhaps we'll see more outfits that are nods to previous Zelda titles and Nintendo games.
Additionally, assuming that Tears of the Kingdom will also have the same treatment as Breath of the Wild, the DLC could possibly roll out a bunch of new armor sets other than the potentially new collaborative content.

Tears of the Kingdom allows players to use fabrics to change paraglider designs. It is possible that we will get more designs in the future to expand the collection that the game currently offers.

There is also a chance that the DLC will introduce new shrines to explore. This is a good way to get more rewards and explore new puzzles from shrines.

Breath of the Wild introduced a new game mode called Master Mode, where players get to experience a harder version of the base game. It is likely that Tears of the Kingdom will get the same treatment and will get a Master Mode as a DLC in the near future.
In Master Mode, players will encounter stronger versions of enemies that can now regenerate health and use different strategies to attack Link. Additionally, enemies can also be upgraded further every blood moon with the introduction of Gold Enemies. This allows some normal enemies to become stronger and acquire stat buffs equal to normal mini-boss enemies.

It is also possible that Master Cycle could make a return in Tears of the Kingdom. This is one of the new items introduced in Breath of the Wild's DLC that serves as transportation option for Link.

It's also likely that there may be another Trial of the Sword DLC for Tears of the Kingdom, as the Master Sword is no longer in its ”awakened state”—which in BOTW, is considered to be its peak form, unlocking its true power after going through the Trial of the Sword challenges.
So there's a high probability that Link would have to go through the challenges again in order to regain its power.

Kass was a key character in Breath of the Wild as he accompanies link throughout the Champion's Ballad. During the events of Tears of the Kingdom, Kass is completely absent from the game—save for a line from Penn after completing all the Lucky Clover Gazette missions.
After the questline, we witness Penn heading over to Washa's Bluffs which is where he and Kass's house once were in BOTW, so it may possible that Kass may be re-introduced in a future DLC and possibly receive an explanation on his absence in the base game.
