Zelda TotK - How to Make a Fire
Fusing Flame Emitters to your weapons and attaching Fire Fruits to your arrows are some of the best ways to make a fire in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK). Read on to learn the other ways to make a fire and what you can do with it.

How to Make a Fire

Cut Down Trees

Zelda TotK - Chop Down Trees

Attacking trees with your axe will cut down trees and make logs. Keep in mind that this will not work with spears and hammers.

Chopping down logs will produce wood. You can also gather wood supplies from stables and villages.

How to Use and Get Wood

Use Flint to Ignite Wood

Zelda TotK - Ignite Wood

Dropping a flint next to your wood and striking it with any metal weapons you have will ignite the wood and make a bonfire. However, doing this in the open rain will not start a fire, so make sure to do this in dry areas like caves when starting a fire during the rain.

What to Do During a Thunderstorm

Use Fire Attacks to Make a Fire

You can also use fire attacks to make a fire. Fusing weapons with fire materials like Zonai Flame Emitters, Shard of Dinraal's Spike, and Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horn will help you make fire-based weapons.

Additionally, attaching fire materials like Fire Fruit and Red Chuchu Jelly to your arrow will also help you make fire attacks.

How to Use Fire

Pass Time

Zelda TotK - Pass Time
Interacting with any open bonfire will trigger up an option to pass time. You can choose from morning, noon, and evening. Keep in mind that sitting next to your campfire will only advance the time and will not recover any missing HP.

If you want to pass the time while recovering HP, you can sleep in beds instead which you can find in town inns and stables.

How to Pass Time

Cook Food

Zelda TotK - Cooking Roasted Food
Dropping ingredients next to your bonfire will slowly roast them. This a good way to boost any ingredients recovery capabilities compared to eating them raw. However, make sure to pick your roasted food quick as keeping them next to your bonfire for too long will destroy them.

You can also use pots to make other dishes. This is a good way to experiment with recipes and make food with extra effects.

Make an Updraft

Zelda TotK - Make an Updraft
Dropping a Hylian Pine Cone on an open bonfire will generate an updraft. You can paraglide on updrafts to propel yourself up and reach high areas quickly. This is a good way to climb cliffs without using too much stamina.

Burning Grass Can Also Make Updrafts

Zelda TotK - Burning Grass Updrafts
You can also burn grass to make an updraft. Since updrafts from grass are small, it will not help you rise up as high as bonfire updrafts.

Survive Cold Areas

Zelda TotK - Survive Cold Temperatures
Staying on open fires can help you prevent cold damages. However, you will still take damages once you distant yourself from the fire. It is highly recommended to wear clothes and bring food with cold resistance when exploring cold areas to prevent further damages.
