To find wells easier and faster, set the Sensor + on your Purah Pad to target wells. You must first take a picture of a well, find it in your Compendium, and press the Target with Sensor button.
How to Get the Shrine Sensor and How to Upgrade to the Sensor +

If you get stuck in a well or simply just want to exit one faster without fast traveling, use the Ascend ability on the well ceiling.
Ascend Guide: How to Pass Through Ceilings

Discovering all Wells found across Hyrule will reward you with the All's Well key item from Fera during the Where are the Wells side quest, alongside the 580 Rupees that you'll also get for discovering all 58 of them!
Where Are the Wells Walkthrough
Some wells have ore deposits that you can destroy to obtain the ores inside. Use hammer type weapons to effectly break ore deposits.
You can also use bombs, or the sage abilities of Yunobo or Riju to cause deposits to explode. However, this causes ores to get blown away.

Wells provide many useful materials such as mushrooms and lizards that you can use for cooking. You may even come across wells with fairies, or encounter monsters whose materials you can use to make elixirs.
Some wells also contain treasure chests that you can loot to get more materials, armor, and even weapons! So be sure to check any well you come across to gather valuable items.
