Plant Brightbloom Seeds

Zelda TotK - Brightbloom Seed
You can use Brightbloom Seeds or Giant Brightbloom Seeds to light up any dark areas you want to illuminate. There are two methods to activate the seed.

You can throw the seed by holding the R button, then holding the up button on the D-pad to select the seed, before letting go of the R button to trigger the throw. Alternatively, you can also drop the seed on the ground and hit it with your weapon or an arrow.

Doing either method will cause it to sprout a bright flower that will illuminate the area. Afterward, you will not be able to pick it up anymore, so make sure you carefully plan where you want to plant these seeds.

How to Throw Items and Materials

Brightbloom Seeds are Easily Available

Brightbloom Seeds can be found in almost every cave of the game. Enemies in these caves will also casually drop them, so use them as much as possible, especially when exploring dark places.

Light a Torch

Zelda TotK - Use Torch
You can also use torches to light up dark areas. However, using a torch can slow down your progress, as dashing will force the fire to go out. So, as much as possible, walk or run normally when using one. You can get torches randomly on stables.

Fuse Weapons with Glowing Items

Zelda TotK - Glowing Fused Weapon
You can use Fuse to add lighting effects on your weapon or shield. It is more practical to use this on shields, however, as they will retain the illuminating effect even when stowed. You can use Star Fragments, for example, to add the effect on your shield or weapon of choice.

Wear the Miner's Set

Zelda - TotK Miner

Having a Miner's Set equipped can also help illuminate dark areas. Although it only lets you light up a small radius of the area, it will not restrict you from using weapons and shields fused with glowing materials, making this a highly recommended armor set to wear when venturing over dark areas.

You can make Bright Elixir by combining critters with glowing effects, such as Deep Fireflies, with monster parts. This allows Link to glow immensely, which also helps in illuminating dark areas during explorations.

Radiant Set Does Not Light Up Dark Areas

Zelda TotK - Radiant Shirt Received
Despite having the word Radiant in its name, the set does not actually exude any sort of radiance in the dark. Wearing the set will not illuminate anything, so make sure you skip on this set when exploring dark places.

Brightbloom Seeds can be used without arrows. You can either drop them and hit them with a weapon or you can hold R to aim your weapon, like you're going to throw it, then press up on the d-pad to select a brightbloom seed. When you release up, you will be holding the seed and can throw it directly to activate it without the need for an arrow or causing damage to a weapon by hitting it.
