You can unlock Autobuild after activating the Steward Construct at the Great Abandoned Central Mine at the Depths. Use the Iayusus Lightroot that you activated as part of Camera Work in the Depths main quest and follow the direction of the statues to reach the abandoned mine.
You can reach this area as part of the A Mystery in the Depths main quest but it is not required to do so.
How to Reach the Great Abandoned Mine | |
---|---|
1 |
Follow the statues in the Depths Open your map and switch to the Depths layer. Fast travel to Iayusus Lightroot as this is the closest Lightroot to the first of the statues. Turn southwest to find the first statue next to Robbie's campfire and start following the direction each of the statues are facing. Don't forget to light up your path with Brightbloom Seeds! |
2 |
Make sure to activate Nihcayam Lightroot when you pass by it after the first few statues. A little further south and you will run into a Frox, which is like a frog talus. |
3 |
Continue following the statues' direction and you will end up in the Great Abandoned Central Mine. Press on and examine the mark next to the suspicious "researchers" to gain the Autobuild ability! |
Note that repairing the researchers' vehicles will trigger a boss fight with Master Kohga regardless of whether you have the A Mystery in the Depths active or not. If you do not want to fight the boss yet, you can fast travel away from the area once the researchers ask you to demonstrate Autobuild for them.
The machines, vehicles, and contraptions you build with the Ultrahand ability are automatically saved in your Autobuild history! This means that anything you create can be viewed in the history and rebuilt again as long as you have enough Zonaite.
You can press the Y Button on a selected Ultrahand contraption to mark it as a Favorite. Doing so pins the selected contraption with a purple flag and puts it on top of the list, providing you easy access to the build.
This feature allows you to save useful Ultrahand contraptions such as the Hover Bike which comes in handy when exploring and transporting backpack Koroks.
While you can rely on your own creativity to make the vehicles and machines that you need to explore, you can obtain prebuilt vehicle schematics if you have Schema Stones.
You can also get schematics from the sealed storehouses in Yiga Clan hideouts at the Depths.
Obtaining these key items registers a new Ultrabuild design from the Autobuild menu.

Once you have the Autobuild ability unlocked, you can open the ability wheel by tapping the L Button and use the Right Thumbstick to point the cursor towards the three purple hands icon to select Autobuild.
Activating the Autobuild ability pulls up your Autobuild history, which is basically a list of vehicles, machines, and contraptions you previously built with the Ultrahand ability.
From there, you can choose a schematic to follow, which also shows the amount of Zonaite needed to rebuild the contraption.
The final step in Autobuilding is to choose a spot where you want the contraption to be rebuilt on! You can also adjust its orientation before hitting the A Button to put the contraption together.
Using Autobuild does not have a cost, provided that the parts required to build the contraption are nearby. Autobuild will only consume your reserved Zonaites if there are no available parts nearby to create the contraption.
