How to Build a Raft |
---|
To make a raft, you need to have logs. You'll be able to find logs near bodies of water, so best to use those for efficiency.
If there are no logs to be found nearby, you can cut down trees with axes, such as the Stone Axe. Fully cutting down the tree will turn them into logs that you can use for your raft.
Once you have the logs ready, combine 3 or more of them into a stable raft using Ultrahand. Use Ultrahand to rotate the logs parallel to each other and to stick them together.
After you've built the logs into a raft, you should attach a sail onto it. Sails can also be obtained by chopping down trees. The raft will be complete once you attach the sails to the center of the logs.
Alternatively, you could attach fans to the rear of the raft for a more stable source of momentum. You can find these fans at Zonai Fan device dispensers found around the map.
Once the raft is complete, carry it over to the water with Ultrahand, then place it on the surface. It's best to place it already in the direction of your intended destination, so it's easier to control.
Additionally, once you place the raft onto the water, you should get on it right away so it doesn't float too far away.
When on a raft with a Zonai Fan, use your bow and arrow to activate it. Even though this consumes an arrow, it's best to do this over striking the fan with a melee weapon, since the melee weapon runs the risk of destroying the raft.
When on a raft with sails, you'll need to utilize the wind. When there's no wind, you'll need to manually fan the sails with a Korok-Frond Guster, which you can create using Korok Fronds and a tree branch.
A raft with a Zonai Fan moves faster and in a more secured direction than a raft with sails, since it's less affected by natural winds. It's best to use a raft with a Zonai Fan when crossing large bodies of water to get to your destination.
Sails are affected by natural wind and will cause the raft to steer in the direction the wind is blowing. If you want to cover great distances effectively, use the Zonai Fan.
Early on in the game, you'll find a few Steward Constructs working with logs and a Zonai fan. You can't build using these logs and Zonai fans, since the materials are being used by them. Instead, just chop down trees and find a fan north of the Steward Constructs.
