Crouch and Approach the Horse from Behind

Zelda TotK - Crouch and Approach the Horse from Behind
Click the Left Thumbstick to crouch down and approach the horse from behind. If you try to approach the horse from the front, it will run away as soon as it spots you.

Approach the horse from a paraglider

If you are at a high ground, you can approach the horse from a paraglider and land behind it. The horse will not detect any movements unless you land in front of it.

Press the A Button to Ride the Horse

Zelda TotK - Press the A Button to Ride the Horse
When you get close to the horse, press the A Button to ride it. If you are coming from a paraglider, you do not need to press the A Button as you will automatically ride the horse when you land on it.

Press the L Button Repeatedly to Calm Down the Horse

Zelda TotK - Press the L Button Repeatedly to Calm Down the Horse
If the horse fights back, press the L Button repeatedly to calm it down.

Note that pressing the L Button consumes your stamina, so be sure to prepare some energizing food and elixirs or upgrade your stamina gauge when taming wild horses.

How to Increase Health and Stamina

Register the Horse at a Stable

TOTK - Talk to Stable Owner

You can take the horse to a nearby stable and register it. Doing so allows you to get your horse from any stable and call the horse from afar by whistling. You will also get one Pony Point.

To register a horse, bring the newly tamed horse up to the front desk and talk to the manager. You will be asked to give your horse a name, and they will be equipped with a saddle.

Easiest Way to Catch a Horse

Fire an Arrow Fused with White Chuchu Jelly or Ice Fruit

You can use an Arrow fused with White Chuchu Jelly or an Ice Fruit to freeze a horse in place. Run towards the frozen horse and wait for it to thaw out. Once it thaws, press the A Button to ride a horse and attempt to tame it.

Make sure not to use a powerful bow when using this method as there is a chance that you may accidentally kill the horse.

How to Increase Horse's Bond

Press the L Button to Soothe the Horse

How to Soothe a Horse
・Press the L Button to soothe the horse if it runs at normal speed after sprinting.
・Press the L Button to soothe the horse if it starts to run wild while sprinting.

The easiest way to increase a horse's bond is to press the L Button to soothe it while riding the horse.

You can also give it food to raise its friendship level. It is recommended to use Apples as they are the easiest collect.

Give Food

Method 1 Method 2

There are two ways to feed a horse: you can hold the food on your hand and give it to the horse or place the food on the ground. The bond level increases the same way regardless of which method you use.

Benefits of Increasing a Horse's Bond Level

Increasing a horse's bond level makes it less likely for the horse to disobey your commands and run at a different direction. In addition, if you are not moving the Left Thumbstick, the horse will automatically travel on the road.
