List of Contents
In Breath of the Wild, Zelda is the Princess of Hyrule and daughter of King Rhoam Bosphoramus Hyrule.
Zelda and her father had somewhat of a falling out as Zelda wanted to pursue her interest in science and technology, whereas her the King of Hyrule wanted her to focus more on awakening her sacred powers.
Zelda is the reincarnation of the Goddess of Hylia, making her extraordinarily powerful once her powers are in full effect. Her struggle awakening these sacred powers is the main source of unease for her in the story and fully manifests once she needs to save Link.
It's currently unknown if Zelda retains some of her powers in Tears of the Kingdom as, during the ending of BotW, she remarks that she feels her power is disappearing though she is at peace with it.
In the previous games, Zelda also possesses the Triforce of Wisdom which often makes her the target of evil forces such as Ganondorf.
In Breath of the Wild however, Zelda appears to possess the whole Triforce. This doesn't come as a surprise to fans of the series as Hylia was originally entrusted with the Triforce by the Golden Goddesses.

To learn of the real Zelda's fate, you will need to find all the Geoglyphs in Hyrule and complete The Dragon's Tears main quest. This main quest unlocks memories that reveal Zelda's backstory.
In an effort to awaken her latent sacred powers, Zelda journeys to the Springs of Courage, Power, and Wisdom, but it seems to have no effect.
Her inability to manifest these powers is the source of her troubles with her father as she sees this as herself not living up to her bloodline.
Although Link is Zelda's appointed knight and protector, she at first doesn't like having him as company due to her insecurities regarding awakening her powers.
This changes after Link selflessly protects her from a horde of enemies and the two grow closer over time.
When Calamity Ganon turns the Guardians against Hyrule and Link is nearly killed, Zelda's powers finally awaken.
After entrusting Link to the Shrine of Resurrection and returning the Master Sword to its pedestal in Korok Forest, Zelda manages to seal Ganon with her powers. This locks them both in a standstill for 100 years, with Zelda waiting for Link to reawaken.
In the officials trailers of Tears of the Kingdom, Zelda and Link stumble upon the Ganondorf's corpse in some underground ruins.
Shortly after Ganondorf appears to break free, the chamber collapses and Zelda appears to fall and is likely where the two get separated in TotK.
It is confirmed that Zelda is not a playable character in Tears of Kingdom. Similar to the previous game, players will control Link to explore the surface and Sky Islands in search for Zelda.
