For the first time in Master Duel's history, the game will be adopting the TCG format of Yu-Gi-Oh! with the help of the Tryout Duels mini-event.

Start | January 30, 2024 |
End | February 2, 2024 |
Aside from event-exclusive banlists from Festival events to match their respective themes, this event features the biggest change in how Master Duel is played with the adoption of the TCG format.
The most notable of which is that by following the TCG format, certain popular cards crucial among Decks in Master Duel are going to be unavailabe due to the differences in the TCG's version of their Forbidden & Limited Card List.
TCG Official Forbidden & Limited Card List as of January 1st, 2024
The most important key change to take note of during the event is that with the TCG Format, Maxx "C" is most likely going to be one of the cards banned among others.
Maxx "C" has been the most used card in Ranked Duels in Master Duel, especially since the release of the Deck Statistics as it has not dipped below 90% in usage.
With it gone, players must now punish Decks outside of using this meta-defining card to counter Special Summons.
The following Decks, known for being strong on Master Duel as of writing, are going to be heavily affected by the TCG Format taking effect:
Decks | Possible Reasons for Being Affected |
---|---|
Tearlaments |
● Tearlaments Kitkallos is Forbidden ● Havnis and Scheiren are Limited ● Tearlaments Merrli is back, but only Limited |
Dragon Link |
● Cyber-Stein is Forbidden ● Eclypse Wyvern is Forbidden ● White Dragon Wyverburster and Black Dragon Collapserpent are Limited |
Mathmech |
● Mathmech Circular is Forbidden |
Dragon Rulers |
● Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls is Forbidden ● Blaster, Tempest and Redox are Limited |
Purrely | ●Purrely Happy Memory is Limited ● Purrely Sleepy Memory is Semi-Limited |
Spright |
● Spright Elf is Forbidden ● Spright Starter is Unlimited |
More may be added during the duration of the event, so stay tuned!
The following cards and their new status in the TCG format compared to Master Duel are what we think will make an impact in Deck Building. Keep note of these cards while creating and/or your Deck for this event.
