In the Nomad Lifepath, V grew up in the Bakkers Nomad tribe in the wilderness of the Badlands. Due to the harsh conditions living out there, the Nomad tribes value bonds stronger than blood to work together and survive.
Due to losing all that because of the disbandment of the Bakkers clan, V decides to try their luck in Night City, starting with a job to smuggle contraband through the border with Jackie.
A Nomad V will have knowledge of the world outside of Night City, but this also means your V's knowledge of the city is going to be limited. You will have close to no connections as you arrive, and people will have difficulty trusting you as an outsider.
Since Nomad V has lived all their life as a Nomad, they will be able to use their knowledge when it involves life outside the city and the Nomad gangs that reside in the Badlands. This will often come up in conversations with Panam, a fellow Nomad who also left their clan.
Right from the start of the prologue, The Nomad, V will already show their expertise in vehicles by knowing what to do to fix their car in a mechanic shop.
This vehicle expertise will be useful many times throughout the game, such as in The Pickup, where you are able to recommend modifying Jackie's motorcycle (which will eventually end up in your possession).
Upon starting the game having chosen the Nomad lifepath, you'll find yourself in a mechanic's garage in a small town out in the Badlands, with your starting quest being The Nomad.
The Nomad Quest Walkthrough
The second unique Nomad quest is These Boots Are Made For Walkin', a side quest that you can unlock by completing the first part of the Ghost Town main quest, just before you are tasked to call Panam.
These Boots Are Made For Walkin' Quest
You'll start the game with V's gang attire, composed of four clothing items.
If you chose to be a male character, you'll start with V’s Vest (With Bakkers Patch), V’s Old Tank Top, V's Nomad Pants, and V's Nomad Boots.
If you chose to be a female character, you'll start with V’s Vest (With Bakkers Patch), V's Tattered Crop Top, V's Nomad Pants, and V's Nomad Shoes instead.
This Rattler car is a heavily modified version of the Galena vehicle, only obtainable by Nomad V during the side job, These Boots Are Made For Walkin'.
How to Get Thorton Galena GA40XT Rattler
While all lifepaths will eventually get Jackie's motorcycle, the Nomad can get a modified one, Jackie's Tuned ARCH. During The Pickup quest, there's a Nomad-specific dialogue where you suggest to Jackie to modify his motorcycle. Note that you need at least 6 points in Technical Ability for this dialogue as well.
A Nomad lifepath will have you starting an outsider to Night City, without any roots to the city. Your character will be experiencing things for the first time, just like you will be if you're a beginner who hasn't played the game before yet.
There's no gameplay advantage to this; this is simply for roleplaying purposes.
While you won't be spending too much time out in the Badlands, the knowledge you got from growing up there will still prove useful from time to time.
The Nomad clans that operate outside the city, the ins and outs of turning scrap into profit, and your expertise of vehicles; your knowledge of all of these will all serve you in your adventures in Night City.
