Setting the sensor to a material that can be found in the overworld will let you track it when nearby. This is a must when farming for materials.
A Rare Stone Talus will drop rare ores and a Stone talus Heart to fuse with your weapons, upon defeating it. Unlike other Talus, their weak point resembles a rare ore deposit, which shines and twinkles in gold.

Unlike other ores, fusing Diamonds to your weapons just powers the weapon up by 25, with no additional elemental effect. It's good if you want a strong weapon, but not recommended for getting the most out of fusing.
There are essentially just 3 weapons that you can get when fusing a melee weapon with diamonds: Diamond Reaper, Diamond Spear, and Diamond Blade.

Diamonds also provide a 25 point damage increase when fused with arrows. However since you'll have to fuse 1 diamond per arrow, this is a wasteful use of arrows.
