If you previously owned The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK) on the original Switch, you need to purchase the Upgrade Pack on the Nintendo eShop for $9.99.
Subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack
Another option to upgrade to the Switch 2 Edition is to subscribe to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. It costs $49.99 for 12 months or $79.99 for 12 months for a family membership.
Purchase the Switch 2 Edition
If you are purchasing the game for the first time on Switch 2, you can purchase the Switch 2 Edition for $79.99.
TotK Switch 2 Edition Upgrades
4K Resolution and 120 FPS Support
The Switch 2 edition of Tears of the Kingdom supports 4k resolution and 120 FPS. It also offers HDR support for TVs that are compatible when playing the game on docked mode.
Save Data Transfer from Switch 1 to Switch 2
If you have save data for Tears of the Kingdom on Switch 1, you can transfer your save data to the Switch 2 edition. This ensures that you can pick up from where you left off in the game without having to start a new save.
Additional Manual Save for Switch 2 Edition
The Switch 2 edition of Tears of the Kingdom includes a second manual save slot. The original Switch 1 version only includes one manual save slot, requiring you to rely on previous autosaves if you wish to load the game from a previous state.
Connectivity with Zelda Notes
Zelda Notes is a game specific service within the Nintendo Switch app that adds new features to the Switch 2 Edition of Tears of the Kingdom.
