Stone Axe is the ideal weapon or tool to use when chopping trees. It will help you produce logs, which you can then chop further to make wood.

Use Wood and Flint to Create a Campfire
Campfire is one of the useful mechanics of the game as it allows you to pass the time and cook food without pot, and you will need wood to build one!
To build your own campfire, simply drop wood and flint on the ground, and then strike the flint with any metal weapon you have in your possession. Once ignited, you can start cooking any roasted dishes you want and interacting with the campfire itself will let you see options on how much time you want to pass.
