Aim for the Dragon's Jaw

Once you find the Light Dragon, glide towards the side of her face. Take out your bow and aim it towards the lower part of her mouth. It's best to aim a little below the opening of her mouth—around her jaw area—for more consistent results. Even if your arrow hits a little lower, it's still likely to produce a Shard of Light Dragon's Fang.

Hitting the Light Dragon's snout or hitting a little too high above the opening of her mouth will yield a Light Dragon's Scale instead of a Shard of Light Dragon's Fang.
