How to Beat Elite Four Lucian

Watch Out for Reflect or Light Screen

BDSP - Mr. Mime Putting Up Barriers.png

Mr. Mime will usually put up either Reflect or Light Screen, which can halve the damage Lucian's team receives from Physical or Special moves respectively.

Break the Reflect or Light Screen

If you are struggling with the Reflect or Light screen, you can break them with the move Brick Break. However, since Mr. Mime resists Fighting type moves, we do not recommend using it to inflict damage.

Lower Medicham's Attack with Intimidate

BDSP - Staraptor against Lucian

Medicham has especially high attack due to its ability, Pure Power. To counter this, you can lower its attack with Indimidate. In particular, we recommend Staraptor for this fight, since it has Intimidtate, and you can use Flying type moves to target its weaknesses.

Use a Super Effective Physical Move to Defeat Alakazam

BDSP - Use Crunch on Alakazam.png

Alakazam is a Pokemon you'll want to defeat quickly due to its high Special Attack and Speed. Because it has low Defense, you can easily defeat it with a super effective Physical move such as Crunch.

Watch Out for Bronzong's Trick Room

BDSP - Lucian

Bronzong will have the move Trick Room, which lets slower Pokemon attack first. If it uses this move, use healing items or switch out your Pokemon until Trick Room dissipates. You can also use a Pokemon that resists Bronzong's attacks, but can also deliver super effective damage.

Bring a team that can handle all five battles

As you will have to use the same party for battling Lucian that you use against the other three members of the Elite Four, as well as the Champion, it is important to bring a versatile team that is effective against all four Elite Four members and gives coverage to Cynthia's team as well.

Best Elite Four Teams

Generally speaking, you will want to bring the six Pokemon you have trained to the highest level up to this point, and the team composition will likely not change much from the main team that you used throughout your adventure. Having a Grass, Fire, and Water type on your team will cover most of your bases, while allowing room for powerful Pokemon such as Lucario and Garchomp to help with odd matchups.

While Lucian, the fourth trainer, has a team mostly centered around psychic type Pokemon, it is not totally necessary to bring a Dark / Bug / Ghost Pokemon. While having some moves of this type on your team will certainly give you an edge, the majority of his Pokemon have low defense and can simply be overpowered without type effectiveness, and meanwhile Bronzong can be defeated with Fire attacks.
