How to Beat Elite Four Bertha

Attack Quagsire and Whiscash with Grass Type Moves

BDSP - Bertha

Both Quagsire and Whiscash are 4x weak against Grass type moves, so it best to have a team member with strong Grass type attacks. In particular, it is important to quickly take care of Quagsire since it has both Toxic and Leftovers.

Watch Out for Quagsire's Water Absorb Ability

BDSP - Gyarados Against Bertha

Be careful when using Water type attacks against Bertha since Quagsire has the ability Water Absorb. Quagsire is usually the first member of Bertha's party, so it is best to lead with a Pokemon with a Grass type move and switch to Water type moves once Quagsire is taken care of.

Break Golem's Sturdy and Target Its Weaknesses

BDSP - Gyarados Against Bertha

If you try take Golem out in one attack, it will be left with 1 HP due to Sturdy, and Bertha will heal it with a Full Restore. To avoid this, break its Sturdy by chipping at its health with a weaker move before taking it out completely.

Bring a team that can handle all five battles

As you will have to use the same party for battling Bertha that you use against the other three members of the Elite Four, as well as the Champion, it is important to bring a versatile team that is effective against all four Elite Four members and gives coverage to Cynthia's team as well.

Best Elite Four Teams

Generally speaking, you will want to bring the six Pokemon you have trained to the highest level up to this point, and the team composition will likely not change much from the main team that you used throughout your adventure. Having a Grass, Fire, and Water type on your team will cover most of your bases, while allowing room for powerful Pokemon such as Lucario and Garchomp to help with odd matchups.

While Lucian, the fourth trainer, has a team mostly centered around psychic type Pokemon, it is not totally necessary to bring a Dark / Bug / Ghost Pokemon. While having some moves of this type on your team will certainly give you an edge, the majority of his Pokemon have low defense and can simply be overpowered without type effectiveness, and meanwhile Bronzong can be defeated with Fire attacks.
