Most of Aaron's Pokemon are Bug type and are weak to Flying and Fire type moves. Staraptor is a great counter against most of his Pokemon as it also resists all their Bug type attacks.
Heracross is a one of Aaron's most powerful Pokemon, so it is best to deal with it quickly with 4x super effective Flying type moves. However, since Heracross knows the move Rock Slide, be careful when using Flying type Pokemon like Staraptor.
Drapion is a Dark and Poison type Pokemon that is only weak to Ground. You can also use strong Water or Fighting type moves to hit it with neutral damage, but this may take some time since Aaron uses Full Restores. It is recommended to have at least one Ground type move at the ready for Drapion.
Pokemon | Recommended Moves |
---|---|
Staraptor
|
・Aerial Ace (Lv. 28) ・Close Combat (On Evolution) ・Brave Bird (Lv. 49) ・Easy to train from the start of the game. ・Great type match up against most of Aaron's Pokemon (except Drapion) ・Intimidate lowers Heracross' Attack stat. |
Rapidash
|
・Flame Wheel (Lv. 25) ・Flamethrower (TM35) ・Easy to train from the start of the game. ・Its high speed allows it to attack first in most cases. |
Garchomp
|
・Bulldoze (Lv. 18) ・Dragon Claw (Lv. 42) ・Earthquake (TM26) ・Great type match up against Drapion. ・High attack and speed. ・Above average defenses. |
As you will have to use the same party for battling Aaron that you use against the other three members of the Elite Four, as well as the Champion, it is important to bring a versatile team that is effective against all four Elite Four members and gives coverage to Cynthia's team as well.

All Elite Four Types and Pokemon
Generally speaking, you will want to bring the six Pokemon you have trained to the highest level up to this point, and the team composition will likely not change much from the main team that you used throughout your adventure. Having a Grass, Fire, and Water type on your team will cover most of your bases, while allowing room for powerful Pokemon such as Lucario and Garchomp to help with odd matchups.
While Lucian, the fourth trainer, has a team mostly centered around psychic type Pokemon, it is not totally necessary to bring a Dark / Bug / Ghost Pokemon. While having some moves of this type on your team will certainly give you an edge, the majority of his Pokemon have low defense and can simply be overpowered without type effectiveness, and meanwhile Bronzong can be defeated with Fire attacks.
