Miquella is a Demigod and one of the more enigmatic characters in Elden Ring. Read on to learn more about Miquella, his location, lore, what we know about him, and a list of items that reference the mysterious demigod.
List of Contents
Miquella is one of the Demigod children of Queen Marika the Eternal and Radagon and is the twin brother of Malenia the Severed, who is described as his blade and protector.
Miquella is an unseen charcter in the game and is not properly encountered as an interactable character, but his disappearance is one of the most enduring mysteries in the Lands Between.
Many items reference the missing demigod and shed some light to his relationships and role in the lore and story of Elden Ring.
In Morgott's dialogue before his boss fight, he describes Malenia and Miquella as twin prodigies. Malenia's Winged Helm and her dialogue during her boss fight also describe Miquella as her brother, making him the child of Queen Marika and Radagon.
Miquella is also an Empyrean, as revealed in the description of the Remembrance of the Rot Goddess, with Malenia calling him "the most fearsome Empyrean of all".
Empyreans are sacred beings distinguished even among other Demigods and, as revealed in Ranni's dialogue, are capable of suceeding Queen Marika as the new god and ruler of the Lands Between.
According to the Remembrance of the Rot Goddess, both Miquella and Malenia are born from a single god which incidentally is what makes them Empyreans. This is in contrast to Ranni, who instead was an Empyrean chosen by the Two Fingers.
As revealed later in-game, Marika and Radagon are in fact two halves of the same being, essentially making them a single god. This also reveals that Malenia and Miquella are full siblings and half-siblings to General Radahn, Praetor Rykard, and Ranni who are children of Radagon and Rennala.
According to the Bewitching Branch, Miquella was much beloved by the people in the Lands Between. However, it also seems that he was able to compel such affections from people either through skill or natural talent.
Miquella, in the past, practiced Golden Order Fundamentalism and created incantations called the Discus of Light and Triple Rings of Light as gifts to his father. Radagon, in turn, gifted Miquella with his own incantation called Radagon's Rings of Light.
Despite being an exemplar of Golden Order Fundamentalism, the description of Radagon's Rings of Light also reveal that Miquella abandoned Fundamentalism as "it could do nothing to treat Malenia's accursed rot".
Miquella is said to have pursued Unalloyed Gold after Fundamentalism failed to cure his sister of her afflication. A note found past the Cathedral of the Forsaken where you fight Mogh, The Omen describes Unalloyed Gold as being capable of resisting the influence of the Outer Gods.
Miquella created several artifacts with Unalloyed Gold, including Miquella's Needle. Using this item in-game lets you subdue the Flame of Frenzy, which will prevent your character from becoming the Lord of Frenzied Flame when used in Crumbling Farum Azula.
Powerful artifacts are not the only things Miquella created with Unalloyed Gold. Several pieces of armor such as the Haligtree Helm and the Sacred Crown Helm have crowns of Unalloyed Gold, and Malenia's entire armor set is in fact made entirely out of this wonderous material.
According to the Haligtree Knight Armor's description, the Haligtree was once a sapling that Miquella watered with his own blood so that it could grow. It also reveals that the Haligtree that the player traverses in-game utlimately failed to grow into a mature Erdtree.
The Haligtree is populated by enemies that the lore describes as either outcasts or oppressed such as the Albinaurics. Albus describes a land beyond the Consecrated Snowfield as a promised land for the Albinaurics, and this is reinfirced by the Royal Knight Armor's describtion which explains that Loretta considered the Haligtree as their best chance for salvation.
Misbegotten also populate the Haligtree, and Perfumer Tricia's Ashes describe the Misbegotten as being seen as impure in the Lands Between. Considering that the Sacred Crown Helm describes Miquella as blessing those considered low and meek, it's no surprise that his Haligtree is populated by these creatures.
Despite the Haligtree being the seat of Miquella's power, he is not found in the branches of the Haligtree or in the city of Elphael which braces its roots.
Although Miquella's absence is an enduring mystery in the Lands Between, we eventually uncover the culprit in game. Mohg, Lord of Blood has abducted Miquella and placed his cocoon in Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum in the palace area where you fight the Omen as a boss.
Miquella is still alive in his cocoon, referred to as the Cocoon of the Empyrean in-game, with Gideon Ofnir confirming in a dialogue that he is merely "slumbering".
When Miquella will wake up or if he will ever wake up is currently unknown.
A short segment in the game's opening cinematic depicts Miquella's abduction by Mohg, and is also the clearest depiction of Miquella in the game. The obscured figure cradling Miquella's body is wearing the same robes as Mogh and also wields Mohgwyn's Sacred Spear.
According to the Remembrance of the Blood Lord, Mogh wished to become Miquella's consort and was actively trying to raise Miquella to full godhood.
Since Miquella is an Empyrean, this would make him one of the few beings capable of supplanting Marika as the god of the Lands Between and would effectively make Mogh the reigning Elden Lord.
