Liurnia of the Lakes

Map Location
World View

Jar-Bairn can be found sitting on the steps of a house in Jarburg. To get here, head northeast from the Gate Town Bridge site of grace until you reach a cliff. Use the platforms on the side to jump down.

Note: For players who have progressed Alexander's questline, the area you need to jump down from is where he gets stuck a second time after fighting Radahn.

Jar-Bairn Interactions

Looking for a New Potentate

Potentate

When you first speak to Jar-Bairn, he will say the village is currently looking for a new Potentate. You have the option of showing him your hands, but he will declare they are neither smooth nor silky enough to qualify.

Picking Flowers from Jarburg

If players speak to Jar-Bairn again, he will suggest that you pick up the flowers littering the village. He says you are welcome to them. Due to the flowers respawning after resting at the nearby site of grace, Jarburg is an excellent location for farming Flower Crafting Materials.

Mentions Diallos the Potentate

After players defeat Rykard at the Volcano Manor and all the characters leave, return to Jarburg and speak to Jar-Bairn. He will tell you Diallos has moved in and is now their new Potentate. Exhaust the dialogue of both Jar-Bairn and Diallos in order to progress this questline.

Attack on Jarburg

Map Location
World View

After speaking to both Jar-Bairn and Diallos, fast travel away and back again until you see all the jars in Jarburg smashed up. Head over to Jar-Bairn who should now be on the village's main path.

Speak to him to know who attacked the village. After this, speak to Diallos at the center of the village and tell him that he managed to defend the jars.

The Tale of House Hoslow

Jar-Bairn and Diallos

Reload the area to find Jar-Bairn standing over Diallos' corpse. He will repeat to you the motto of House Hoslow as he stares ominously at the dead warrior. He is a warrior jar after all.

Setting Out on a Journey

Companion Jar Talisman Drop

Return to Jarburg once you defeat Alexander in Crumbling Farum Azula. Speak to Jar-Bairn who should now be sitting back at his usual spot. Give him the key item Alexander's Innards to aid him on his journey to become a warrior.

Reload the area by fast traveling away or resting at the site of grace. Jar-Bairn will be gone and in his place will be a new talisman called the Companion Jar.

Lore and Trivia

Lore

  • Jar-Bairn is a small warrior jar living in the secluded Jarburg in Liurnia. He lives among other jars like himself, waiting for the arrival of a Potentate.
  • Some time later in the game, Diallos will arrive after having fled the fall of the Volcano Manor. Due to his bloodless hands, Jar-Bairn and his jar friends declare him as the new Potentate.
  • It is also during this time of relative peace that Jar-Bairn shares that Alexander once lived in the small village. However, unlike the other pots, Alexander decided to follow the path of the warrior, leaving Jarburg behind.
  • Despite the presence of their Potentate, Jarburg falls prey to poachers seeking to harvest pots for their magical innards. It is here that Diallos dies and Jar-Bairn consumes his body to let the tale of House Hoslow live on in him.
  • In the end, with the village devastated, Jar-Bairn decides to leave after the Tarnished hands him the innards of his Uncle Alexander. He vows to become stronger until he is deserving of the late warrior jar's innards.

Trivia

  • The word bairn means child. Jar-Bairn is literally a Jar Child.
  • Jar-Bairn was an NPC added during Patch 1.03 of Elden Ring. Like with many of the NPC updates, his apperance closes off the chapter of Alexander the Warrior Jar.

Jar-Bairn Quotes

"Hallo coz, what are you doing here? I didn't think anyone knew about this place, 'cept us jars. Oh! Are you going to be the new Potentate?"
"Gosh, truly? That's wonderful news! It's not easy being Potentate, though. I know, show me your hands. It's just a little test, coz, to see if you've got the right stuff. Hmm. Your skin isn't so smooth, is it... You need slick, slidey hands to be Potentate, you know. I'm sorry coz, but I don't think you've got what it takes... What a shame..."
"Oh, hallo again, coz. I'm happy you came back. I have good tidings for you, coz. Have you noticed the rare flowers growing in this village? I asked the villagers if you could pick some of them. And they said you'd be very welcome! Go on, coz, you really should pick some of our flowers."
"Say, coz. Have you met Uncle Alexander? He used to live here with us, but then he left, to be a champion. I asked to go with him, but he said "The path of champions must be trod alone". So heroic, right? I miss him though. If you see him, you should ask him to teach you how to fight, coz. He's big and tough and strong! Uncle Alexander said he won't be back again. "My home is of the past. And the past, as they say, is a different country." I suppose that's part of being a warrior, isn't it."
"Have you heard? A new Potentate's come to the village! I think he said his name was Diallos. He seems a little down in the dumps, but his hands! As smooth as sillk!"
"O-oh! Coz! I'm glad you came. But we're fine now. Diallos fought the poacher. Though quite a lot of us got broken... I won't cry though... I'm a warrior jar. A warrior."
"The tale of House Hoslow is told in blood. That's the kind of warrior I want to be one day, coz. Even if I'm scared, I'll still fight to protect everyone. "
"I've been thinking. It's time for me to set out on a journey. As a warrior jar, upon the path of champions. Wow, coz, are these... Thank you, coz. I'm a warrior jar, so I need to be strong. I can really have them, right? I understand. I'll get strong. Strong enough I deserve to have Uncle's insides. I don't think I'll see you again, when I set out. Goodbye, coz."
