Rya Quest Walkthrough

Rya is an NPC that has a rather unique questline tied to Rykard, the God-Eating Serpent, and Lady Tanith. Help her uncover the dark secret of Volcano Manor to receive the Daedicar's Woe talisman upon completion.

Quest Objectives

Retrieve Her Lost Necklace

Return the Necklace to Rya

When you first speak to Rya, she will be distressed that her necklace was stolen. She will ask the player to retrieve the necklace from the Tarnished that robbed her. Once players have retrieved Rya's Necklace from the Blackguard, go back to her and turn it in.

In return, she will properly introduce herself and extend an invitation for you to visit the Volcano Manor in Mt. Gelmir. It is here that players will receive the Volcano Manor Invitation key item.

Go to Boilprawn Shack and Get the Necklace

Boilprawn Shack is to the northwest of Rya's position. Go there and speak to the Blackguard beside the cauldron of cooking prawns. He will charge you 1000 Runes to get the necklace back.

Go to the Altus Plateau

Map Location
World View

After giving Rya her necklace, she will tell you that you must reach the Altus Plateau to prove your worth to the Manor. You can do this by either re-activating the Grand Lift of Dectus, or braving the Ruin-Strewn Precipice.

Choosing either option will work, however, re-activating the Dectus lift is the easier method. Either way, speak to Rya outside the Dectus Lift or near the Erdtree-Gazing Hill site of grace to have her transport you to the Volcano Manor.

Quest Objectives
Reunite the Dectus Medallions
Brave the Ruin-Strewn Precipice (Optional)
See Patches' Cutscene First (Optional)

Reunite the Dectus Medallions

Activate the Grand Lift of Dectus

To activate the Grand Lift of Dectus, players will need to retrieve both the Dectus Medallion (Left) and Dectus Medallion (Right). They can be found at Fort Haight and Fort Faroth, respectively.

Once both halves are secured, use the completed medallion at the lift to go up to the Altus Plateau and meet Rya.

Brave the Ruin-Strewn Precipice

Map Location
World View

Alternatively, players can brave the dangerous Ruin-Strewn Precipice and defeat Magma Wyrm Makar. While riskier, opening up this path will allow you to have a much easier time with Patches' Volcano Manor quest, later on.

If players use this method, Rya will instead appear at the Lux Ruins next to the Erdtree-Gazing Hill site of grace. This area can be found by riding up the hill from the Magma Wyrm elevator.

See Patches' Cutscene First

Patches Cutscene

This step is optional. For players who want to see Patches' cutscene on Mt. Gelmir, do not accept Rya's offer to transport you to Volcano Manor. Accepting will skip this interaction entirely.

Patches Questline and Location

Speak to Her in Volcano Manor

Map Location
World View

Rya will next appear inside the Volcano Manor's drawing-room. Join Tanith's Recusants to access the room and speak to her inside. She will tell you how glad she is that you are now under her lady's service.

Note: There is a slight variation in dialogue if you went to the Volcano Manor on your own. However, this does not affect the outcome of Rya's questline.

Catch Her in Snake Form

Meeting Zorayas

After you complete your first mission for the Volcano Manor, open the doors opposite the drawing room to find Rya in her snake form. Confront her about it and she will confide in you her true nature and real name, Zorayas.

You can then speak to Tanith about Zorayas true form and she will tell you that it is fine to know as her daughter seems to trust you.

Kill Old Knight Istvan

In order to get this interaction, progress the Volcano Manor questline by completing the first assassination mission. Kill Old Knight Istvan in Limgrave before returning to the manor and speaking to Rya.

How to Beat Old Knight Istvan

Confirm Volcano Manor's Dark Secret

Rya - Tell Her About Volcano Manor

Once players come back from their second mission for the Volcano Manor, Rya will have returned to her human form. Speak to her and she will tell you about her suspicions regarding Volcano Manor.

Confirm that there is indeed something wrong with the manor before telling Rya the truth behind it all. You can then confront Tanith about it for additional dialogue.

Quest Objectives
Kill Rileigh the Idle
Find the Illusory Wall
Open the Door at the Prison Tower Church

Kill Rileigh the Idle

In order to get this interaction, progress the Volcano Manor questline by completing the second assassination mission. Kill Rileigh the Idle in the Altus Plateau before returning to the manor and speaking to Rya.

Find the Illusory Wall

Volcano Manor Illusory Wall

To get the prompt to reveal the manor's secret to Rya, players will first have to go through the illusory wall that leads to the Volcano Manor Legacy Dungeon. The wall can be found inside the first room to your right when heading to the manor drawing room.

Since combat is not allowed inside this section of the manor, roll into the wall to open it. Bring a Torch or a Lantern before exploring as the area will be very dark.

All Illusory Walls and How to Find Them

Open the Door at the Prison Tower Church

World View Map Location

Once you get through the dark hallways, head over to the Prison Tower Church site of grace and unlock it. Then, open the door leading outside to unlock the legacy dungeon. The option to tell Rya about the Manor's secret should now be unlocked when you return to her.

Confirm Rya's Real Origins

Confirm Origin of Ria

To confirm Rya's suspicions about her birth, explore the legacy dungeon until you reach the Temple of Eiglay. Inside, defeat the Godskin Noble boss and retrieve the Serpent's Amnion key item.

Give this to Rya so she can be sure that she was the offspring of the manor's serpent. Speak to Tanith after this to receive the Tonic of Forgetfulness for later.

Quest Objectives
Defeat the Godskin Noble
Retrieve the Serpent's Amnion
Get the Tonic of Forgetfulness (Optional)

Defeat the Godskin Noble

Defeat the Godskin Noble

To reach the key item needed for this segment of Rya's questline, you will first have to defeat the Godskin Noble guarding the Temple of Eiglay. Beat him to receive the Godskin Stitcher and Noble Presence incantation.

How to Beat Godskin Noble

Retrieve the Serpent's Amnion

Retrieve the Serpent Amnion

After the boss is defeated, retrieve the Serpent's Amnion from the temple's altar. Give it to Rya back in her room to help her confirm the truth behind her birth.

Get the Tonic of Forgetfulness from Tanith

Tanith Tonic of Forgetfulness

This step is optional. After you give Rya the Serpent's Amnion, exhaust her dialogue before reloading the area. Speak to Tanith and confront the proprietress about Rya's absence to have her give you the Tonic of Forgetfulness.

Players can give this Tonic to Rya later on instead of killing her. While it does complete her questline, giving her the tonic will prevent you from getting her letter after she leaves the Volcano Manor.

Go to Rya Before Fighting Rykard

Map Location
World View

After you tell Rya the truth about her birth, she will relocate to one of the secret rooms of Volcano Manor's legacy dungeon. Speak to her there and she will ask you to kill her. Now, players can either spare her, give her the Tonic, or kill her.

Note: Defeating Rykard before speaking to her at the new location will have her disappear from the manor. When this happens, she will not leave anything for the player after the Rykard fight.

Rya Questline Outcomes
Spare Rya and Do Not Give the Tonic
Kill Rya Inside the Legacy Dungeon
Give Rya the Tonic of Forgetfulness

What Happens if You Spare Rya?

Return to Rya after Rykard

If you opted to spare Rya, you can return to her location in the legacy dungeon after defeating Rykard. While she will no longer be there, Rya will leave a letter for you to find as well as her Daedicar's Woe talisman.

This is perhaps the best outcome as Rya lives and decides to find her purpose (according to her letter). In the other instances, she dies or vanishes entirely.

What Happens if You Kill Rya?

If players kill Rya, she will revert back to her snake form and drop the Daedicar's Woe talisman upon death. You can return to Tanith and tell her that Zorayas is dead for additional dialogue.

What Happens if You Give Rya the Tonic of Forgetfulness?

If players give Rya the Tonic of Forgetfulness, she will fall into a deep sleep. Speak to Tanith and tell her you gave Rya the potion for additional dialogue.

After you defeat Rykard and all the Volcano Manor NPCs leave, Rya will relocate back to the Drawing-Room. Speak to her here before reloading the area. Rya will be gone and in her place will be the Daedicar's Woe talisman.

Rya Information and Lore

Lore

  • Rya is the servant of Lady Tanith of the Volcano Manor, recruiting Tarnished she thinks strong enough to serve their cause. She invites you to Volcano Manor the same way Diallos is invited in his questline.
  • Rya's real name is Zorayas and she takes on the form of a half-serpent. Later on, she will find out that she was born from the Great Serpent of Volcano Manor.
  • Depending on which outcomes players went for, Rya will either leave to find her purpose, die at the hands of her champion, or forget what transpired at the Volcano Manor.

Trivia

  • The Blackguard at the Boilprawn Shack will tell you that something is not right with Rya. His words will ring true once players visit the tortured landscape of the Volcano Mountain in Mt. Gelmir.
  • Rya's Necklace contains an image of a woman from a foreign land. This is most probably an image of Lady Tanith, her mother. While not directly stated, it is consistent throughout all related item descriptions that Tanith was a dancer from a foreign land, taken up as Rykard's consort.

Rya Quotes

"Thank you kindly, I am in your debt. Did I forget to announce myself? I am Rya, in service of Lady Tanith of the Volcano Manor. I seek stalwart Tarnished who might join our house."
"You are very brave yourself. Not only a steady hand, but a steady heart, merciless, even to your own kind. Such strength is precisely what my mistress seeks."
"Brave Tarnished, seek the Altus Plateau, the realm of the Erdtree. Most Tarnished are doomed to wander the outskirts of the Lands Between, peering wistfully at the towering Erdtree...But you are no ordinary Tarnished."
"I wish to set out on a journey. So that one day, I can carry on Mother's work. Be the proud daughter of Tanith of Volcano Manor. Farewell. You've always been so kind. So uncompromising. My champion."
