The Finals of the WCS for Master Duel will be determined via Team Battle, the game mode that was introduced to Master Duel last November 2022.
Each team will be composed of three players; the top ranking player from each Region in the WCS Qualifiers, and two players from the same Region they have handpicked to be their teammates.
The Finals is composed of two sections: the 1st Stage and the Final Tournament.
The 1st Stage is a Round Robin format between two groups, each composed of four teams. The top two from each group will advance to the Final Tournament.
A round is defined as "each player playing one Duel against everyone on the opposing team". Which means all three players of one team will battle against all three players of another team, once each.
Three Duels will happen simultaneously during this Round Robin, so it might be hard to keep track of individually.
Players are not allowed to talk to each other while Dueling, nor are they allowed to watch others while in a Duel themselves.
However, once their Duel is finished, they can talk to their teammates who are also finished, or watch the remaining player in their own Duel.
Team 1 | Team 2 |
---|---|
5 Wins | 1 Wins |
Due to this format, the Round Robin format between is a first to 5. Additionally, should a team win 5 Duels first before the third Round Robin set, they automatically win the round.
Should that happen, the winning team will have their supposed Duels in the third Round Robin credited into their number of individual wins.
If the number of wins comes to a tie, the final Duel will be between the teams' representatives--which would mean the Team Leaders.
As mentioned above, the top two teams from each group during the 1st Stage will move on to the Final Tournament, which follows a single elimination bracket format.
To qualify, the following are determined from the 1st Stage:
・Total Rounds Won ・Most individual Duels won ・Duels won by the Team Leader ・The Tiebreaker Duels won by Team Leaders |
The same Round Robin rules between two teams apply during the Semifinals and Finals.
Each player is eligible to run two Decks, and can pick which one to run before a Round.
As for the usage of cards, the number of copies are to be spread out amongst the team members. For example:
Team Leader | Player A | Player B |
---|---|---|
![]() ![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
The team leader runs two copies of Dark Magician on one of their two Decks. That means between Players A and B, only one of them can run the remaining third copy of the card in one of their Decks.
This restriction is further heightened between Semi-Limited and Limited cards.
Team Leader | Player A | Player B |
---|---|---|
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
For example, Monster Reborn is currenlty Limited as of July 13, 2023--only one copy in a Deck allowed.. This means only one Deck out of a team's six is allowed to run the card.
A team can decided on what is called a "Shared Card," which permits them to run up to its maximum amount in a Deck for each Player.
For example, if one of the teams decides to pick Super Polymerization as their Shared Card, then all six of their Decks can run up to 3 copies of the Quick-Play Spell Card.
The official Forbbiden & Limited Card List followed by the WCS will include the most recent changes that took effect on July 13, 2023.
