Do Knives Break Resident Evil 4 Remake
Knives now break in the Resident Evil 4 Remake! Read on to learn how it works, how long until the knife breaks, what lowers knife durability, and how to increase the durability of the knife.

Do Knives Break?

Knives Break Overtime

Knife in Bag Resident Evil 4 Remake
Knives now have a Durability bar that can be accessed from the inventory or can be seen on your screen when holding the knife.

Attacking Enemies Lowers Durability

Knifing Enemies Resident Evil 4 Remake
Using the knife on enemies will slowly lower durability! This applies even to dead enemies so to maintain the integrity of your knife, don't attack once you know your enemy is dead.

In addition, knifing enemies that grab you will break the knife more!

How Many Attacks Till It Breaks?

Knife Action Break Rate
Stabbing an enemy to break free from their grapple High
Finishing a downed enemy High
Stabbing an enemy in the back Medium
Landing a parry or perfect parry Low
Parrying a thrown weapon Low
Swiping enemies with a knife Low
Breaking barrels with a knife Very Low

It takes about 3 attacks during grapples like in the video above, and about 3 swipes afterwards to break a knife. Players can prolong the durability of their knife by avoiding grapples!

Knives Have Different Durability Stats

Knives in the Resident Evil 4 Remake also have varying durability stats. Weapons with lower durability values will break much faster than Leon's default Combat Knife, so always check a knife's stat values to ensure you don't use it up too quickly.

Can You Repair Broken Knives?

Resident Evil 4 Remake - Knife Upgrade Tune Up

You can upgrade your knife's durability by going to the Merchant and selecting the Tune Up submenu.

Hover over to your knife and you should see the Durability option which you can purchase and upgrade the durability of your knife up to Level 5!

Do note that this upgrade can only be applied to the Combat Knife, Fighting Knife, and Primal Knife, and not the knives that you commonly pick up while exploring around such as the Boot and Kitchen knives.

Primal Knife Has Infinite Durability

Resident Evil 4 Remake - Primal Knife Merchant

The Primal Knife has the ability to have an infinite durability perk equipped.

You will have to upgrade the Primal Knife's Power and Durability to max level then spend 10,000 pesetas or use an Exclusive Upgrade Ticket to get the infinite durability perk.
