After an extensive introductory cutscene, the game starts off in a narrow muddy path where you were dropped. While familiarizing yourself with the movement controls, follow the path until you reach a gate with a deer carcass nearby. You can examine the deer if you wish.
Find the house where the path leads then crawl under the barb wires to enter its yard. Go inside the house and check the first room that you find in the hallway. You will find a Crude Charm with some writing on its back. Examine the writing to receive a file.
List of All Files and Where to Find Them
Exit the room and go around the back through the hallway. The blood-painted wall in front of you is locked, so enter through the other door on your right for a cutscene.
Before you leave the room, grab the Hunter's Lodge Key beside the villager's body and check the Officer's Badge on the floor near the door. Weapons will now be enabled after you're back in control. You only have a knife and a handgun with exactly 10 bullets so try to save your ammo for now.
Return to the marked door from earlier and use the Hunter's Lodge Key to unlock it. Go down the basement and enter the room on the other side, here you will find the officer's corpse.

Go back to the previous room and ready your handgun as the Ganado (what the villagers are called) from earlier will attack you as you aproach the stairs. Keep your distance while shooting his head or legs and do a quick turn when he gets close to avoid getting grabbed.
Return to the hallway near the first room and sneak past the Ganados by moving while crouched. Turn right to the previously hidden room with a staircase.
Open the cabinet in front of you for a Green Herb then go up the second floor. Enter the room for another cutscene.

Follow the trail and cross the bridge to find a cabin. The barrel outside can be interacted with for some Handgun Ammo. Keep an eye for these taped containers (usually barrels or crates) especially if you're in need of bullets or healing. You will find a Typewriter inside, which is used to save your progress.
Enter the next room to get to the other side of the area. Keep moving forward towards the ruined cabin with a dead wolf outside. Check the drawer inside the cabin for more Handgun Ammo then return to the main path past the fallen tree.
Two villagers will attack you as you approach the truck. Take them out and find a small cabin up the winding trail. A villager will be waiting just behind the entrance. You can try luring him out for a clear shot or prepare to parry his attack with your knife. Grab the items inside including the Red Herb, which you can combine with a Green Herb to restore your health to full.
At the end of the trail is the gate to the Village Square. We recommend that you take the path on your left first and be sneaky until you reach the house east of the village.
Hug the north side of the village while crouched. Continue moving east, grab the Green Herb near the logs, and take out the forking villager with a silent knife attack (a prompt will appear on-screen for this action). Now that you're behind the two-story house, quickly run to its front door to proceed to the next objective, alerting the entire village.
Take note that you won't move on to the next objective until the villagers are aware of your presence, and since some of them are grouped at the center, it is impossible to wipe the whole area stealthily.

As soon as the cutscene ends, turn around and block the window by moving the cabinet next to it. This will stall the villagers for a time while you loot the house. Go to the back and grab the ammo, materials, and First Aid Spray. Run to the second floor and grab the W-870 on the wall as well as the Hand Grenade from the cabinet. This will help you take down the Chainsaw Man.
Run to the other side of the room and kick down the ladder to stop more villagers from entering the house. They will put this up again shortly so this is just to buy you more time to prepare. The goal in this objective is to survive for around three and a half minutes.
When the Chainsaw Man gets into the house, don't panic and quickly equip the shotgun. Empty your shotgun on him and try to aim for a stagger by shooting his head. This will give you a chance for a melee attack, dealing significant damage to him and nearby targets. This also gives you space to flee to a safe spot.
If you have some durability on your knife left, you can also parry his chainsaw to avoid dying instantly.
If the room gets too crowded, jump out the window next to the cabinet where you got the hand grenade and run around the roof to the east. You can lure them on this spot while keeping them back with melee attacks and grenades. Jumping down is also an option if you're starting to get overwhelmed.
Since you only have your handgun with you, try to conserve your remaining ammo by shooting their head until they're staggered and open for a melee attack. This is also possible on the Chainsaw Man but will take much longer due to his durability. Once the church bells toll, the villagers will go into a trance and stop attacking.

Now that the villagers have barricaded themselves in the Church, you are now free to roam the Village. You can try going into some of the houses and breaking some crates to resupply ammo.
Go to the gate where the Chainsaw Man emerged from. Continue down the path until you see the windmill and into the farm area. You can roam around, stealthily killing the villagers, shooting Blue Medallions, and raiding for more ammo.
Once you clear out the enemies, you can go towards the locked gate in the farm area. Go into the room on your right careful not to trigger the tripwire. Climb up the ladder and you will see a door that is missing a cog. Exit through the hole in the wall. Crash through the window and deal with the villager inside. Picking up the Wooden Cog makes a Minotaur appear and break down the barn door.
Once you have defeated the Minotaur and the villagers, go down the ladder and the wooden cog will be on the table just behind the ladder. Return to the room with the door mechanism, place the cog, and interact with the lever to open the gate. Head through and cross the bridge.
Once you cross the bridge, the large gate will be locked. Head right and interact with the cart to move it aside opening a new path for you. Continue down the path heading to a tunnel while taking out the Ganados in your way.
After exiting the tunnel, go into the shed on your left but be careful not to trigger the tripwire. To save on bullets, you can wait until a villager charges at you triggering the tripwire on themselves. After the enemies have been dealt with, go inside one of the houses. Interact with the barricade to move it out of the way. Deal with the villager banging on the floor, and interact with the door and drop down to the basement. Head deeper and interact with what seems to be a moving corspe to find Luis tied up.
Mendez will show up and chokeslam you through a wall. After injecting you with what seems to be a copy of the T-virus, the chapter concludes.

Chapter 2 |
One way to save ammo and knife durability is to shoot an enemy's head or leg to stagger them. If you're successful, they will be unable to move for a while and a prompt will appear when you approach them that allows you to do a melee attack and deal significant damage.
Most enemies in Standard difficulty will fall after a headshot from the handgun and a follow-up melee attack. Flash Grenades also do the same effect in the area of impact. Try throwing one in the middle of a group and go on a kicking spree!
Crates and barrels with yellow tapes can be interacted with to obtain items such as ammo and crafting materials. Keep an eye on these as you go to replenish your supplies.
If you get grabbed by an enemy, it is much better to break free from it normally than using your knife. Knifing the enemy when you're grabbed uses a lot of its durability, and once it's completely depleted, you won't be able to use the knife to block or parry attacks.
You will lose a significant amount of health this way, but it's a lot easier to recover the health you lost than the knife durability that you would've used up if you decide to take the other way out.
To the right of the village entrance is a barn with a cow inside. You can lure a horde of Ganados into the barn, even the Chainsaw Man when he's already present, quickly run out the other exit, then shoot the lantern hanging from the ceiling to set everything inside the barn on fire, including the cow.
The burning cow will also run down anyone in its path until it falls, which you can exploit to quickly clear the mob.
One strategy you can use to make the fight against the mob of Ganados in the Village easier is by returning to the area's entrance and slowly picking off foes that come nearby. Using this strategy can cause the Chainsaw Man to not spawn, giving you a less stressful time dealing with this section.
You will encounter some doors locked with a simple chain and padlock. These can be forced open with kicks so you won't have to waste a few bullets to break the locks.
Most sheds and small houses will have tripwires just as you enter. It is highly recommended that you stay crouched every time you enter a new area or room because there could be tripwire by the entrance. You may raise the brightness of your screen to easily detect the flashing red lights given off by the tripwires. Alternatively you can increase the in-game volume to hear the beeps given off by the tripwire.

Chainsaw Man, also known as the Chainsaw Villager, is an elite enemy villager using a chainsaw as their weapon. Its chainsaw can block off bullets, so aim at a different spot, like its head and knees, to hit it.
Minotaur is an elite enemy villager with a bull for a head and a giant sledge hammer. Although it may take more shots than normal villagers, knowing where to hit it greatly helps in bringing it down efficiently.
