How to Unlock Luis in Mercenaries

Get Rank A or Higher in Any Stage as Leon

Luis is unlocked as a playable character by getting Rank A or higher in any stage, which requires a score of at least 100,000. This must be achieved by playing as Leon, since he is the only available character before unlocking Luis.

Strength: Mayhem Mode is Simple and Powerful

Luis' strength lies in the simplicity of his Mayhem Mode: The dynamite is easy to use and very powerful, as it can wipe out a whole mob of enemies, and deal significant damage to elite enemies.

You can only plant 1 dynamite at a time, but after letting one explode, you can plant another dynamite while the Mayhem gauge is still active. You can set off up to 3 dynamites if you're quick enough.

Weakness: Weak Against Close Range Combat

Luis doesn't fare well against ambushes or fighting in close range combat, as he doesn't have the guns to fend off mobs of enemies. When using Luis, it is beneficial to maintain a good amount of distance between you and enemies.

Luis Works Best in Narrow Passages

Luis shines a bit more in the Castle and Island, as they have more tight corridors and choke points, where enemies can gather and be caught in your dynamite blast. The Village has lots of open spaces so Luis will have a harder time being more effective here.

Luis Abilities

Mayhem Mode: Timed Dynamite

Luis' Mayhem Mode is unleashed by pressing L3 + R3 / LS + RS at the same time. During Mayhem Mode, Luis' plants dynamite onto the ground. This dynamite will explode after a set amount of time or when it is shot at.

When to Use Luis' Mayhem Mode

Luis' Mayhem Mode is best used in tight corridors and choke points, where enemies are funneled together, and the explosion can reach all of them. Triggering Mayhem Mode also puts you in a state of invincibility, so it can also be used as a panic button when you're surrounded as you plan your next move.

How to Use Mayhem Mode

Melee: Kick

Luis performs this kick after shooting an enemy in the leg and pressing the Interact button. It is better to aim for the iron pipe move, as it has wider AoE reach.

Melee: Iron Pipe

Luis swings with an iron pipe after shooting an enemy in the head and pressing the Interact button. This is likely his best move, as it can hit other enemies around him as well.

Melee: Tackle

Luis charges at an enemy with extreme force, knocking them down. This can be triggered by deflecting an enemy's attack with your knife.
