Chapter 4 Walkthrough

This is a walkthrough for Chapter 4 of Resident Evil 4 Remake (RE4). Read on for a detailed walkthrough, route maps for each objective, a list of important items obtainable, and tips on how to beat the giant and how to complete this chapter!

Chapter 4 Basic Information

Chapter Summary

Leon awakes from another nightmare. He is still out on the lake as his boat begins to fill with water. He races to shore to find the key to the Church on the other side of the lake.

Chapter 4 Walkthrough

Chapter Objectives

Find the Key to the Church

Exit the Boat Dock

Once you regain control of Leon, exit the dockhouse. Head to the tunnel at the end of the path. Crouch down to fit in the crawl space. You will encounter a new enemy type, a Parasite. Defeat the enemies in your way and follow the torches. Climb the stairs by the bloody altar and continue on the path until you reach the tunnel shrine. Interact with the painting of the lake to update your map. Exit towards the direction of the Church Key. Get the Old Wayshrine Key will be in a small chest next to what appears to be a shrine.

From the shrine, go towards the dock and ride the boat. Head left until you reach another dock. Continue forward, take the right turn from the dock. Villagers will attack you on sight. These villagers are infected with the Parasite. As such, it is recommended that you dispose of them before they have a chance to transform.

Continue heading deeper into the Large Cave Shrine, eliminating villagers along your way. At the end of the path you will find a locked door. The door can be unlocked by pressing the right combination of buttons on the panel by the door.

Cave Shrine Puzzles

The clue to figuring out which buttons to press can be seen if you check the cavern walls for yellow paint. Based on the orientation of the buttons starting from the top center going clockwise: 2nd button, 5th button, 8th button. Get the Apostate's Head from the statue once the door unlocks. Return to the boat to go to the next location.

Investigate the Second Location

Ride towards the open lake towards the northwest of the map. Go into the narrow space between the rocks. Dock your boat and you will encounter a locked door similar to the first location.

Cave Shrine Puzzles

The clues to opening the door will also be seen through the yellow markings on the wall. In the same orientation as the earlier puzzle, the solution would be: 4th button, 6th button, and 7th button going clockwise from the top center button. Take the Blasphemer's Head from the statue once the door unlocks.

Hexagon Piece Locations

Before proceeding, do not forget to pick up the Hexagonal Piece C from the chest on the table.

Get the Key to the Church

Get back on the boat and ride towards Mural Cave. Head towards the altar and place the Blasphemer's Head on the left pedestal, and the Apostate's Head on the right pedestal. Get the Church Insignia from the central pedestal.

Return to the Quarry

Ride your boat back to the dock in the Quarry. Take the Hexagonal Piece C to the panel by the dock. Afterwards you can climb back up to the Quarry and head to the church. It is recommended to save the game by the Merchant Hideout before venturing further. Once you return to the Quarry, there will be fires lit. A stranger cloaked in red will be atop the quarry seemingly chanting an incantation. Afterwards El Gigante will burst through the metal door.

Defeat the Giant

The giant apperars to be impervious against typical bullets. Your only chance is to incapacitate it with gunfire and explosives until it staggers, revealing a Parasite on its back. When prompted, press the designated button to repeatedly attack the weakpoint with melee. If you had saved the wolf dog from earlier it will appear mid-fight to assist you in combat. You will have to incapacitate the giant 4-5 times as you rain a flurry of melee attacks on the Parasite on its back.

Make For the Church

After the giant is defeated, exit the quarry and head towards the Church retracing your steps. As you approach the Church, there will be Colmillos on the prowl. Deal with them and then head to the main door. Place the Church Insignia on the door to open it.

Solve the Church Stained Glass Puzzle

Church Stained Glass Puzzle

Interact with the lever on the left side of the wall across from the altar to reveal three colored buttons. You will have to find the missing Blue Dial inside one of the cupboards inside the church to solve the puzzle. The green dial must be pointed to 3 o'clock, the red dial must be pointed to 9 o'clock, while the blue dial must be pointed to 5 o'clock. Once the puzzle is complete, a gate will open in the church.

Find Ashley

Head to the newly opened path left of the altar. Climb the stairs and go through the door at the other end of the church. Ashley will attempt to ambush you mistaking you for one of the villagers. After the cutscene plays out, the chapter concludes.

The Catch Me a Big Fish request can be found at the Lakeside Settlement. Unlock the locked door using the Insignia Key and follow the path inside until you reach the note towards the dead end of the cavern.

Chapter 4 Collectibles

Clockwork Castellan

You can find this Clockwork Castellan past the locked gate north of the Lakeside Settlement. Use the Insignia Key to get past the gate, then follow the path until you reach the Forest Altar. Once there, look through the fences past the body on the altar to find the Castellan.

Yellow Herbs

A Yellow Herb can be found in Chapter 4 in the ground floor of the Large Cave Shrine, just underneath the walkway above.

Alexandrite

An Alexandrite can be obtained from a chest in the shipwreck in the middle of the lake.

Red9 Handgun

The Red9 Handgun can be obtained from a chest in the shipwreck in the middle of the lake.

Velvet Blue

A Velvet Blue can be found on a barrel on the east side of the lake where there are a lot of chickens.

Depraved Idol

The Depraved Idol can be obtained by solving the Hexagonal Puzzle.

Splendid Bangle

The Splendid Bangle can be obtined in a Wayshrine, southwest of the lake. To open the Wayshrine, you'll need the Old Wayshrine Key.

Alexandrite

An Alexandrite can be obtained by following the river southwest of the lake and shooting the censer above.

Pearl Bangle

The Pearl Bangle can be obtained from the Wayshrine in the lakeside village with the Old Wayshrine Key.

Gold Bar

The Gold Bar can be obtained by using a small key to open the locked chest in the large cabin.

Red Gemstone Ring

A Red Gemstone Ring can be found in the deepest part of the basement where you first found Luis.

Ruby

A Ruby can be obtained by solving the puzzle in the Small Cave Shrine and dropping the censer on the second floor.

Velvet Blue

A Velvet Blue can be obtained by going southwest of the lake and shooting the censer hanging from the cave ceiling.

Butterfly Lamp

Map Location	In-Game Location

You can get the Butterfly Lamp from a Wayshrine on the way back to the Church from the Quarry.

Yellow Diamond

A Yellow Diamond can be obtained by defeating El Gigante.

A Ruby Hidden Treasure can be obtained by turning left in front of the Cave Shrine Puzzle and shooting censer hanging above.

The Silver Token Hidden Treasure can be obtained in the Large Cave Shrine by dropping the censer hanging from the cave ceiling.

Chapter 4 Bosses

El Gigante

El Gigante, or "The Giant" is another elite enemy that is first encountered on the way back to the church. This enemy has high durability, but can be taken down easily once the plaga on its back is exposed.

How to Beat El Gigante

• Keep an eye on screen prompts
• Shoot its head until it's staggered
• Knife or shoot the plaga
