Resident Evil 4 Remake Beginner's Guide

Best Tips for Beginners

Conserve Ammo With Precise Shots

Resident Evil 4 Remake - Conserve Ammo With Precise Shots
In the Resident Evil 4 Remake, your weapon ammo isn't infinite, and you can't buy them at the Merchant, so learning to conserve ammo. To help save ammo, we recommend aiming for enemies' heads and weak spots and using the Knife and melee attacks to finish them off.

We also recommend learning how to stealth kill and taking advantage of environmental hazards to give you an easier time saving weapon ammo.

How to Save Ammo

Learn to Bait and Dodge Enemy Attacks

With the game having no dedicated dodge button, the main way to avoid enemy moves is by baiting out attacks and stepping away from their path. You can do this by moving close to an enemy, then sprinting backward or sideways to avoid getting hit.

Have Weapons to Cover Every Range

Resident Evil 4 Remake - Have Weapons to Cover Every Range
We recommend keeping weapons that excel at long, medium, and close-quarter engagements in your inventory at all times to deal with the game's varying enemy encounters. For the early game, we suggest aiming for the SG-09 R handgun, W-870 shotgun, and SR M1903 rifle for a versatile spread of guns.

Beware of Traps and Hazards

Aside from the enemies you'll face, the game often hides traps and environmental hazards that can drain your health or leave you vulnerable to attacks. Always keep an eye on the ground, especially along narrow pathways covered by foliage, as trip wires and bear traps usually blend in well with the environment.

To disarm these traps, you can shoot them from a distance or slash at them with Leon's knife. However, try not to step on traps accidentally while trying to trigger them with a melee attack.

How to Disarm Traps

Always Check the Merchant's Shop

Whenever you come across the Merchant, we recommend always checking out his entire stock. The Merchant often updates the items he sells in every area and sometimes offers limited-time deals that allow you to save Pesetas, such as free attachments when purchasing a new gun.

What to Buy First

Invest in Upgrading the Attache Case

Resident Evil 4 Remake - Invest in Upgrading the Attache Case
In general, we recommend prioritizing spending your Pesetas on Attache Case Upgrades. Each Attache Case Upgrade increases your carrying capacity, allowing you to fit more weapons and resources into your inventory and making it a worthwhile purchase every time.

How to Manage Inventory and Attache Case Loadout

Sell Treasures at the Merchant

Resident Evil 4 Remake Objects
You may come across Treasures while exploring the game's numerous areas. These items often have no other purpose outside of being high-value items, so sell these items at the Merchant as soon as possible to free up your inventory slots and gain large amounts of Pesetas.

Don't Sell Combinable Treasures Immediately

However, note that you can combine specific Treasures to make them more valuable and sell them for higher at the Merchant. Avoid selling these treasures immediately, and stay alert for their other parts so you can maximize your Peseta income.

Always Keep Ashley Safe

Resident Evil 4 Remake - Always Keep Ashley Safe
Remember that your primary objective is to keep Ashley alive. After finding her, she'll become your companion for most of the game and follow you around, even in dangerous areas.

While you can command Ashley to perform specific actions, you'll still have to ensure that she doesn't get killed or taken away by nearby foes and that you don't accidentally shoot and kill her.

Flash Grenades kill Plagas quick

Plagas are vulnerable to light and can be defeated with a single flash grenade, netting you the Shield Your Eyes Bronze Trophy. If you ever find yourself surrounded by enemies, throw a flash grenade to throw them off and find a better position for yourself.
