Use Shotguns and Explosives

We highly recommend using Shotguns and explosives for this fight as it deals higher damage and has a high chance of staggering Mendez, allowing players to keep on dealing damage and finish the first phase easily.

Target His Extended Spine

Mendez's weak spot is the centipede-like body that is in between is torso and legs, continuously damaging this part will split Mendez in half and clear the first phase.

Utilize Explosive Barrels

Mendez will grab and try to fry you up with explosive barrels. Use it against Mendez by shooting it with a Handgun or any mid-range gun before he throws them!

Consider Climbing to the Second Floor

You can climb to the second floor as soon as the boss fight starts. During the first phase, it will be easier to aim at Mendez, and he won't be able to go for a barrage of attacks. You will also have an angle to the eye on his back, giving you more options where to hit him.

You can climb it in the second phase, as well, to get a better angle against Mendez. Just be careful not to do this while he's about to throw objects, as you will get hit by them.

You will also get items above the platform, like ammo and herbs, to keep you up in battle!

Mendez Boss Fight Skip

You can skip Mendez's entire boss fight by going inside the warehouse then going back to the stairs while aiming with a scope; wait for the game to autosave then load that save to skip this fight successfuly.

Note that doing this skip does not grant you the achievement, and cannot be done on Professional difficulty as this skip uses the autosave feature.

Mendez Attack Patterns

Spinning Attack

Mendez can cook up a spinning attack by twisting his body. This attack takes a while to start, so you have time to dodge this by going to the second floor or keep away from him. Staggering him with gunshots or explosives can also stop this attack.

Grab Attack

Mendez charges at Leon to get closer to grab him. You can prevent this by shooting his weakspot enough times as he charges to halt his advance. If you're grabbed, you can use your Knife to break free fast and avoid losing too much health.

Charge Attack

In the 2nd Phase, Mendez will swing and straightforwardly charge at Leon. You can evade this attack by running on the left or right, whichever has more room to run into.

Tentacle Stab

If Leon is in an elevated position during the first phase, Mendez will use his tentacles to reach Leon and stab him. Avoid this attack by moving around and pressing the button on the screen.

Tentacle Swipe

During the second phase Mendez will hang on to metal bars and will use his tentacles to swipe towards Leon, avoid this attack by dodging through the swipe.

Object Throw

During the second phase, Mendez will start grabbing and throwing objects at you. One of the objects is wooden, flaming beams that you can dodge by crouching or sprinting. The other one is Explosive Barrels you can shoot to damage Mendez before he throws them.
