Bait and Sprint Away From Attacks

Since the Resident Evil 4 Remake has no dedicated dodge button, the primary way to avoid enemy moves is by baiting out attacks and stepping away from their path. The easiest way to do this is by moving close to an enemy, then sprinting backward or sideways to avoid getting hit.

Sidestep Thrown Weapons

Enemies often throw melee weapons at a slow speed and take a while to wind up their attack. You can effortlessly avoid most thrown melee weapons by strafing or sprinting sideways away from their trajectory.

Press Button when Prompt Appears

Some attacks from enemies can be easily dodged if you press the button prompt that appears on the screen. This can range from Leon performing a backflip, or simplying crouching just before getting hit.

Unavoidable Attacks can be Parried

For attacks that cannot be dodged with the prompt, your other option would be to parry it at the last moment before you get hit with the attack.

Unbind Quick Turn From the Run Button

When using the default control layout, it's possible to accidentally trigger Quick Turn when attempting to sprint backward away from an enemy's attack. We highly recommend switching the Quick Turn button to Crouch or Alternate Run in the Controls menu to avoid these accidents.
