After picking up the Church Insignia in Chapter 4, the shortest path leading back to the Church is through the Merchant's store in the Quarry. Use your boat to cross the water between the Mural Cave and the store's docks, then pass through the double doors west of the Merchant.

Save Before Leaving the Merchant's Store

We highly recommend saving at the Merchant before heading straight for the Church, as this section is right before a boss fight and a point of no return.

Stock up on supplies, upgrade your weapons, repair your knife, and ensure you didn't miss anything in the Lake before venturing any further.

Take Down El Gigante (The Giant)

Resident Evil 4 Remake - Take Down El Gigante
After leaving the Merchant's store, you will immediately trigger the El Gigante boss fight in the Quarry. Repeatedly stagger the monster and deal damage to the Plaga sprouting from its back to take it down and resume your way back to the Church.

Once you've dispatched El Gigante, make your way back toward the Church. However, be wary of the Zombie Dogs that can block your path as you approach the Church doors.

After clearing them out, use the Church Insignia to unlock the church doors and proceed with the rest of Chapter 4.
